You put a little on the white impeller shaft? I guess this is safe for the life in the tank? What is the specific mollycote lube?
Wow. You’d think for that much they’d be “water proof” and not rust since ya know that’s the whole pointAfter MP40 wetside rusting and wiping out tens of thousands of SPS, I’ll never purchase them again.
Yeah I’m looking at the jebaos. As of now I don’t really care about the wires as I can just get cheaper ones and then down the line maybe upgrade to mp40s for cleaner look. Can save the money and use it for other things. A power head is a power head as long as it moved water. I think their main selling point is the app and wires but whats difference in using app and controller if your right there. Unless your not homeI have 6 mp40s. I will be replacing them with something else as they fail. I'm tired of bearing failures on dry sides that have not been dropped. I also have mp10s and wet side magnets are splitting so I'm pretty much fed up with vortechs in general. I suppose if you can find used ones that aren't noisy and don't have cracked magnets and they're cheap enough maybe?
Granted mine have been running for years but for the price they should run as long as my old Tunze that was a fraction of the price and still going strong after 10 years. IMO the only thing they offer is no wires in the tank. They're are still wires visible running on the outside glass. No adjustment for flow direction can also be an issue. If they were half the price I may consider them.
I would look into the jebao knock offs if no wires in the tank is a must. I have one but i stuck it behind the rocks to try to keep detritus out and I haven't touched it since adding it 6-8 month ago. Mine has an external control which TBH I don't mind because I don't fiddle with flow very often anyway. Its still spinning but that's all I can say about it because i haven't touched it since i added it to the display.
This may not be a problem for everyone but i get a lot of little critters like limpets and asterinas that reproduce in my tank. Recently I've been having problems with those critters finding a way into the MPs then causing a loud clicking noise that requires the wetside be cleaned. This happens weekly at times. I do not have the problem with powerheads that do not sit against the glass like the mp wetside.
worth the price? Not full retail. Are the mp40s really worth it. I know that’s like the standard wave maker that everyone has nowadays. I currently have gyres but tired of cleaning them so much and literally takes me house to scrub every nook and cranny. Are the mp40s worth the price tag? I’ve spent so much on gear recently not sure if I want to spend more yet lol
