Picked up a used mp60 local and it’s extremely loud…first mp60 I have had 40s for years and they are nothing like this.

Is there something wrong with this mp60?

Magnet is not alligned...
My MP40 does that until i move the wet side in like the perfect spot.

Turn off the powerhead... reallign the wet side, then turn it back on.
And then fine tune location.

Once it starts doing that, you can't fine tune it... need to turn it off, and then replant, and then once magnets are sort of in sync then fine tune possition.

Likely the magnet notorious for this issue especially with older models.

Sorry for that man. I have 2 mp40s and they do NOT sound like this. Even at 100 percent. Just a gentle hum at that level and silent below say 80%

Does it make that that noise with the wet side removed? I also took a screen shot of your video. It looks like the wet side is grossly misaligned with the dry side or is that an optical illusion?

Do you have the outer shell set for the right thickness glass and so you have the rubber spacer pad in place?
I have the large spacer. I ordered the medium once which should be to the correct one to see if makes a difference tonight. I ran my mp40 without a spacer to see if I got similar results and the 40 is pretty dang quiet

Good question. If it still is loud with the wet side off then it could be the bearings. They can get damaged when the dry side is dropped.

Great idea actually.

I have another used on coming. That one i bought on here the guy has been clear it makes no sounds. I am going to try that dry side and wet side when it comes in.

The tank is in my home office / theater the kids want o watch a movie tomorrow sooooo that is going to be fun

What about the outer shell. You slide it off and rotate to adjust for glass thickness. It’s not always accurate in used older units and you might have to go one size up or down

So the mp60 has fan blades built into the dryside, there are little slots on the outer shell that you can actually see them rotate.

This also means that debris can get inside and lodge itself in that cavity.

Just like putting baseball cards on your bicycle, the sound that you hear is more than likely that.

Can you clean that or remove it?

If you can't remove what's lodged in there, you can peel back the puffy ecotech sticker on the back to expose 3 screws, that will remove the case and make it easy to get whatever is in there out.

And of course you can blow some air across the fan blades to clean them up while you're in there.

I have tried the large spacer and no spacer. Sound is the same regardless. I did overnight ship a medium spacer which should fit my 3/4 inch glass best. Should be here Tuesday but I am very doubtful that remove this sound. It’s so loud my kids left movie night early.
