Just checking if you pulled the rubber gasket off and rotated so the right thickness is lined up with the power cord. And sometimes you need to go one sizing bigger or smaller (usually smaller )

That is a very old mp40 or mp20.

That spacer design was upgraded in 2014.

Can you clean that or remove it?

I just took one apart to show you. There's a total of 5 screws. 3 on the back and 2 behind the rubber pad on the front near the cord outlet.





And you can see the black splines that rotate with thw armature.

My mp40 to this day is still nearly silent. I think I got my moneys worth

@VintageReefer, those metal case ones are built like tanks, they're brushless motors so they will last a very very long time.

The only downside is that their windings are different and can't achieve the higher rpms of the newer motors.

But outfit it with a quiet drive driver and you get the same silent motor.

Hopefully, @robg2008 can get his 60 to quiet down.

Back to the OP …..

That’s not alignment noise. As others noted, sounds like something impinging on the dry side motor rotation. Does it sound like that when there is no wet side attached? That way you can eliminate the wet side as the problem. Assume it’s a QD model? Important to use the correct spacer to reduce motor wear. I have had multiple MP60s in use over a good chunk of a decade, no dry side motor issues at all. Wetsides do need replacing periodically. Although I had a couple of MP40 magnets rupture, I’d did not on the 60s. I’d also suggest you hang it properly.

It’s my understanding that the cord must go upward rather than down so that could contribute. Also as others have said it’s totally and alignment issue. Mine have done that if they aren’t placed quite right.
