Multiple corals closed after adding peppermint shrimp. (All water param are good)

I haven’t seen the peppermint shrimp eat the hammer coral. But the two peppermint shrimp have destroyed all the aptasia in two days. All my other Zoas are open. But this small colony has all closed up for two weeks. Along side the green star polyps. My LFS said peppermint shrimp don’t eat hammer corals. I don’t know what to do

Have you changed any light settings recently? What about parameters; Is anything different there? Any other changes you have made to your tank besides adding those shrimp?

Are the they real deal peppermint shrimp. I added two into my tank and they wiped out the pest aiptasia problem. My corals are doing fine with them. I have two of the one (A) at the top of the list. ReefeScape in Fairfax Virginia have them.

How soon after adding the shrimp did this happen?

Did you add the water from the bag/container into your tank?

Have you made any other changes?

Yes they can be irritating. They are actually not eating the coral, just micro algae and in turn irritating the polyps of the coral and they close up. There are many reef inverts that do this, emerald crabs will also do this, used to drive my euphyllias and me crazy

Peppermint shrimp are the worst thing in this hobby, they all eat coral and they all like coral more than aiptasia

you have to get the correct shrimp. I have two and they do not trouble my corals.

Peppermints can be a scourge of this hobby and I would recommend them to no one. yes this is my sole personal opinion, but peppermints are as opportunistic of an eater as comes. Yes as stated they will walk all over corals, but have been known to eat LPS and softies. They also will eat rock flower anemones in some cases as well. One of their favorites are your snails as well.

Lighting is the same. Water parameters are the same as well. All good numbers. One thing that is weird is. Each day my hammer coral has less of its tenticals and you can see it’s stony base
