I'm so glad your now on the other side of this. [emoji4]

So let's recap.

1. What do you believe started the crash?

2. What were the indicators that you were indeed having a crash and what did you do??

3. What was it that you did or didn't do in order to stop the crash and reverse it?

4. What have you learned from this experience? [emoji4]

Great questions @120reefkeeper

What do you believe started the crash
  • After back tracing my steps, it came down to running my bio pellet reactor too slow and the reactor and pellets started causing hydrogen sulfide production. I had read an article and the article suggested that running bio pellet at a slow tumble is better then running them fast tumble.
What were the indicators that you were indeed having a crash and what did you do??
  • My corals started looking weak in color and started resending. I started to walk my change back word slowly to see each result. This took time for the reason I wanted to find what was causing the problem.
What was it that you did or didn't do in order to stop the crash and reverse it?
  • Lastly I took the bio pellet reactor off line and the corals stopped dying and went back to basics before running the bio pellets.
What have you learned from this experience?
  • That you ask a lot of questions:p. I learn that not to run bio pellets to slow, would I run bio pellet again? yes but for short periods and at a fast tumble for short time frames. I was using the pellets to help with green hair algae and cyano algae and now I am back to running carbon and trying a different product to control my nutrient load.

Numbers look nice!
Thank you, and the nice things is that they have been steady for the past 2 weeks.
Tank is coming back to life and the Red cyano is gone. I miswell walk away from reefing right now and I can say that I had a success:eek::D

Walk... away...? I don't understand those words...

(And I had to look up "miswell"; because I'm 'merican... I shall now endeavor to use the term "miswell" more often.)
You can tell my northern root by some of the words I use:rolleyes:

I'm sure that my Cali comes out as well, so no worries. Likely more when I talk than type as I can "correct" my typing... ;-)

Is it "miz-well" or "miss-well"? I'd had to mispronounce Canadian slang. No one would get mad at me, of course (Canada!), but I'd hate to look silly doing so. Because that would be very... er... American... :-|

The winning numbers are 1/14/17
Ca 460
Mg 1380
Alk 8.4
PO4 trace to .02 ppm
NO3 8 ppm
Backed of 1 ml dosing on the 1+3+ so now I am at 36 ml daily total dose, but broken up in 9 ml doses 4 times a day. I found that my my numbers are staying steadier and I am dose lest by spreading out the dose.

I am thinking of setting up auto water changes with sea water in the future:rolleyes:

Following along jsker! Glad you got things straight. I'm bailing on the AF balling and going back to BRS. I'm gonna do a modified AF program of my own design.
That is another thing I like about reefing, seeing what work on different systems.

Took the number at a different time to see how my multiple dosing is doing:rolleyes: looks like things are staying steadier with dosing 4 times a day:)
I am going to post some pictures of the corals later today
