I spent weeks reading the posts on Reef2Reef about how you should never get an Aptasia Eating Filefish. I was so scared it would eat my coral and be a menace. My 20 Gallon tank had probably close to 150 aptasia, it covered every single surface including the back wall and my wave maker even. My coral were clearly being stung because everything was sucked up and sad looking. I tried a peppermint shrimp but it never has left his cave and never ate a single aptasia. I finally budged and got myself a filefish and within 2 weeks i had 0 aptasia. It ate every single one. My coral are now open, polyps extended, everything is happy again!

I'm sure it can go so poorly but i wanted to let new reefers know, if you are scared from the hundreds of anti-filefish posts on R2R, it doesn't always go bad. It's been one month and everything is good. I keep the Filefish fat on mysis and brine shrimp and now my next battle is the bubble algae.

Glad it worked out for you! I had a one of these years ago, was a great fish, very well behaved with a big personality.

Thats great news! Can I ask where you bought it from? It seems there are a few different types of filefish that are advertised as aiptasia eaters.

I bought it from a store in Oregon called The Nautilus Tropical Fish.
