Hooked On Reef Tanks
Tank looks fantastic ! And a big pat on the back to Dad for funding the home Marine Biology lesson for his daughter . She looks very happy and it just might be something you both can share even when she gets older .:D
Madison is our lil' fish nerd...lol. She loves the tanks.
Yes I really do like the Sunpod and the CPR Aquafuge on the Nano.
We are going to be re-working the aquascaping a little soon. I'll be sure to post pics.
On a sad note, we haven't seen "tutu" in almost a week. I drained the back portion, hoping to find it swimming around back there...no luck.

Thanks all!! Here's some updated pictures. Angie's wanting to re-aquascape. She's not liking the Arch Rock. Unfortunately, it has a T. maxima attached to it, so we'll see what happens.

you should have waited at least a month or two to add livestock, but to be honest i added livestock on day one and everything has thrived and still is. as long as your sand, water, and rock is good you should be able to get away with it, hopefully. just next time dont rush it!

Beautiful Tank. I like the mod with the extra powerhead in the back wall.

The rock in the tank came from a very healthy tub of rock I've had for over a year. It's been kept very healthy, with regular water changes and has lots of great life on it. The sand was new and dry sand, so we did experience a small diatom bloom, on the sand bed, but nothing to be concerned about. We did wait until the diatom bloom was over to add anything other than a clean up crew. The tank is thriving and very healthy.
Surfn, Love the 150 Sunpod. With the 3 powerheads in the back, the K1 in the display and the Sunpod, I was a little worried about heat issues. We've been experiencing quite a heat wave this past week, with temps in the low 90s. However, we do try and keep the house fairly cool, with air conditioning. Right now, the tank is sitting at 76-78. I've not had any problems keeping it at about that temperature. I'll try to get an updated pic today, however, I've been really busy preparing for the upcoming 200 deep dimension...lol. In fact, I moved the AP24 yesterday, in order to move our desk, in order to make room for the 200.
Bagged87blayzer, thank you for your kind comments! The mods were quite easily accomplished. The tank is coming along nicely. Since this tank holds SPS, and will hold more SPS, the mods were needed, for additional flow.

Using water from another tank will do absolutely nothing and is a well known myth. The beneficial bacteria (nitrobacters) do not live in the water column. They live on hard substrates, such as sand, rock, glass and equipment. Using live rock, that has a healthy population of beneficial bacteria will help reduce the chances of a cycle. We experienced absolutely no cycle. Using dry sand will not hurt anything at all. Of course, live sand, will give you a higher population of nitrobacters, but is not at all necessary. We allowed the HOB fuge to run, with a deep sand bed, for awhile, before adding any fish, which also helped develop a nice pod population. We did also seed the sand bed with a couple cupfuls of sand from our 75 reef tank. This tank has been set up for almost 4 months and has never tested for any detectable ammonia, nitrates or nitrites. We did have a small phosphate issue, but it only lasted a short time. Alk, Ca and Mg levels are all right where we want them and the tank is healthy.

About a year ago, we added a Red Headed Goby, that I, mistakenly posted as an Elacatinus puncticulatus. In the last year, we hardly ever see it, and have actually gone over a month without ever seeing it. Lately, I've been catching glimpses of it, every now and then. I'll even it sitting on a rock, but before I get the camera, it darts into hiding. Well, today, it's been out in the open!! After taking some pictures of it, I need to correct my previously mistaken ID. It's actually an Eviota nigriventris. Sorry these aren't the best of pictures. The curved glass of the nano, makes macro photography a bit difficult. To give you an idea of size, it's about 3/4" - 1" long.

Has it really been so long, since Michael or I have updated this thread?
As some of you may have heard, Michael actually cleaned the tanks the other day. So, I made him take pictures of my nano. He also needed to clear out some corals, from frag racks, in our 200, so added them to the nano. You'll notice, there's still some bubble algae and turf algae.

HAHA. Yes, the lack of photos is my fault. As Angie said, I recently had to clean the 200, REALLY GOOD, as I had the local newspaper coming over, to photograph it. Since I spent the good part of half the day, cleaning the 200, I figured I'd also do a bit of cleaning, on her Nano. I obviously still have a bit of work to do, to it, as you'll notice all the bubble algae and turf algae. I sucked up a lot of bubble algae, while doing a water change, but can only suck up so much, during a 10 gallon water change. I'll get more, next time. I also think we're going to add a couple Emerald Crabs. As for the Turf Algae, that's a different battle, as it's very difficult to manually remove. In the 200, a few months back, I used a high magnesium (Kent TechM) dosing regime, to battle briopsys. A beneficial side effect, was the die off of a little bit of turf algae. Might try that, on her Nano.
