Hello everyone. Will be doing some more updates here on this thread over the next 8 months. This is my first tank and I have done some decent research ahead of time. Mistakes have been made already and I will go into that as time progresses. For now I’m looking for some input on my live rock! Tank has been up for about 2 weeks. CUC has been in the tank for about 4 days. (Ammonia spiked to 4ppm then I added turbo start and it dropped to .1-.25 depending on when I test the water) I have a sump and refugium I’m going to be adding to the water Column this week. ( I will be doing a post on that cute little guy later) Tank is currently 5G and sump will add another 2.5G!

Anyhow here’s the rock. Some detritus in the tank currently but sump/ref should take care of that.

Cheers!
Kevin.

Haha! That’s freaking awesome. Would love to see an update of it if it’s still pushing flow. I’m super excited about my nano. I’ll be doing tons of updates. ✌

Just wanted to update this. I got the mini sump up and running. Took some pretty interesting customizations but has been flowing smoothly for about 4 hours now.

Tank was started with live sand and aquaculture live rock on Sept 15th

Can’t remember exact date but roughly 10 days later 4ppm Ammonia reading on the API test kit.

Added 1.5oz of Turbo start 900 that day.

Tank ran for 3 days and I tested again.

Ammonia 1-.5ppm Nitrites 1-2ppm Nitrates 40-50ppm

Water change 40%

Added CUC 2 hermits 1 emerald 1 Nassirus

*1st mistake : I tried to add more flow and it stirred the tank up. (Sand bed)

I cleaned the filter and replaced Carbon bag.

Tank ran since then without sump.

Added sump today.

*2nd mistake: should have waited to implement at same time.

*3rd mistake: In my haste to find fittings a forgot to plug the heater in while I was out for about 2 hours. ‍♂️ Came home to one hermit upside down and another clinging to the rock in his shell. Emerald was just doing his thing. Water temp was at 70 degrees. I got the hermits into a bowl with tank water and put a tiny heater I have in with them suspended above them (until 78.5 degrees) After the tank was back to temp I added them but it was lights out so I’m not sure how they will do.

The sump is Best saved for another thread but I’ll leave my setup so far below.

Temp @ 78.5
No real ammonia preset t (api ‍♂️) nitrites 0 nitrates 1-2ppm?
Hanna checkers on the way. (got the pro V2 kit)

5gal Fluvo tank/LED
2.5gal sump with refugium&protein skimmer (aqua life 115 mini internal)
Timed lights alternating sump/DT schedule.
Small power head flow with return pump flow as well.
Overflow box w/ pvc piping to sump.

Will post some pictures soon.

Cheers.

following. I have always been skeptical of the ultra nano tanks but I know people who have carefully planned and know what they doing can pull it off- to a certain extend. looking forward to see the build progress!

Well another day of nano tank stuff. Lost 1 hermit last night, pulled him from the tank and said our goodbyes. Everyone else doing well and the tank has never been cleaner. Always nice to see your hard work come together. Will let it run and most likely getting fish tomorrow for my sons birthday. Plans are 2 clowns and some type of anemone. Pictures coming soon.

Ok here are the pictures. Water slightly cloudy as I just moved the power head and a media bag around 15 mins ago. Flow is amazing and everything is ultra smooth and quite. Check out my bubble trap working like a champ! Skimmer set low while it breaks in. Excuse the salt creep and bootleg hose holders lol! Going to fix that this weekend.

Any questions ask away. Notice the close up of the light attachment. Had to saw that opening into the over flow box? ! Hahaha!

Cheers!

Some adjustments on the skimmer got the micro bubbles down a bit. Also positioned some sponge filter in front of the return port. Video for noise. Phone was right next to overflow box but step 6 feet away and it’s almost inaudible.

Pumped! Took some tests and everything still stable. API wise.

Tried posting some videos but here is an image of the new fish. 1 snowflake (or frostbite not sure) and one Picasso? Let me know if you can ID these cuties.

Macro in the system. (Bubble trap waterline is a bit high atm. Still working out the overflow box positioning)

Just a quick update here. 2 clowns have been in since Friday evening. Been feeding them like crazy. 3 times a day but only 10-15 brine/mysis shrimp at a time. They devour it in seconds. . Sump is working beautifully. First day I left it alone all day since it was setup. And didn’t even lose all that much water to evaporation. Waiting for my ATO then will adjust some things in the sump.
Picture is in my mind, a success.
I started medicating the food with focus and metro. Saw a red dot on Viper (just under his mouth) when I bought him. It since has faded a bit but the bump still remains, hard to tell but I think Snow White has developed a similar situation. Will Medicate them 3 day’s. Bought from Petco due to proximity to my home. So they could use some meds I’m sure.
I also started dosing purple up and have seen some nice growth already.
Here’s to many more years keeping fish and reefs.
Cheers mates!

Here’s some shots of the tank. Detritus way down after sump installed. I haven’t even vacuumed sand bed since I set it up. Also you can see a small shrimp in front of the media bag in the sump picture.

Also more stuff! Haha. So Viper is the Picasso looking guy and Snow White is the other obviously. But both have been sleeping in the back corner in a sand pit they dug for themselves. It’s so awesome to watch them swim in unison in the dark. Love these animals! Not sure if this means they are paired but it seems like it could be happening soon!

woo!

here is a video. I saw the female fluttering her body on the sand while the male was close by. Tried to get her to do it again but she wouldn’t on camera. Is this a display of egg nest prep? Haha how crazy if they spawn the same week we get them.
Fun stuff!!!

Just did my first water change since adding livestock. Went ok. Saw this guy molting after the fact. Hopefully it doesn’t mess with him.
