I use Red Hot for most everything. Can be used with primer or without. We use it on some of our repairs at work on th Distribution system.

— Surge protectors in power strips are one of those things that effectively wear out over time… it was explained around here in WAY more detail by someone who actually does electrical (can’t recall where it was, sadly)… but basically; a real surge protector is usually built into the home electrical, and the power strip surge protectors are “underbuilt”, so to speak!

Monster makes quality electrical products, but at a certain brand markup!

they usually build/market them as surge protected purely to be competitive, it's all the rage right now… I’d just go for whichever one is best suited to your needs! — the likes of space between at least some plugs helps with plugging in power bricks too!

Oof! Get a pair of handheld ratcheting plastic pipe cutters! (Basically like garden pruners on steroids)

A power saw is not a fun way to cut PVC pipe under 2”!

i think i got all the plumbing pretty well wrapped up! so excited!! and my sand came today. looks like nice stuff @Fish Styx ! you still rinse it even though it says not to, right?

Yup! Rinse, rinse, rinse! Then rinse again. If you don't, you'll be dealing with fine particulate matter in your WC for years. Trust me- learn from my mistake. IMO, the benefit of live sand isn't so much that it is live, per se, but rather phoslocked and it won't bottom out your nutes. It will become live again in short order once the tank is seeded anyway.

ok had to take a break from the plumbing. getting frustrated. so i went out and installed a TDS meter to my RODI system. never had one before. so know i need someone to teach me the language of them! its showing 11. i know youre supposed to be at 0. so what next?

what you’re trying to measure is how efficient your filtration system is! (In Parts Per-Million of Total Dissolved Solids)

Key points to test:

— City water supply TDS (mine’s around 200-220ppm)

— post-RO membrane(s) TDS (mine’s around 1-3ppm once the filter’s been running for a bit)

Post-DI stage 1 (if using a mixed bed resin, TDS should always read 0ppm here until stage 1 is near-depletion!)

Post-DI, all stages (optional); should always read 0ppm TDS!

its city water i think it said 278 going in and 11 coming out
