Hello can someone ID this Damsel for me? I can’t find anything that looks like it. My LFS sold it to me 2 months ago as a Red Sea Chromis. I’d like to know more about it just to make sure it’s not going to grow to 1 foot long or somthing 😂.

Generally, if a LFS says "Red Sea" it usually came from there, or perhaps the Indian Ocean.

The picture isn't super clear, and of course, damselfish color is variable due to age and conditions under which it is being held. The fish looks fairly deep bodied and there is a lot of yellow on the anal and pelvic fins.

I don't think it is in the genus Chromis, it might be an Amblyglyphidodon, possibly A. indicus

I agree with Jay it’s close to the “white bellied” damsel I’m seeing but it doesn’t seem to be a perfect match. A. leucogaster.

A white light picture would potentially help.

With these clearer photos, I’m changing my mind - looks more like a chubby Pomacentrus-type damsel, not Ambyglphyodon.

I was going to suggest the Regal (Neopomacentrus cyanomos) but you may have a good one with Pomacentrus. The body shape and upper tail give it a higher probability.

Good call.

The fins are not as long but it’s close.
