Hi all - I have a Nuvo 14 peninsula currently running a Noo-Psyche K7 mini. It’s been a fine light but as I’ve built out the tank I think I could benefit by having something with better distribution and diffusion. A digitata that is just below the light is losing polyps in its own shadows, which I think can be helped with a broader light source.

Is there another light you’d recommend? Someone in the SPS thread suggested T5s but it seems like those fixtures are either out of production or way too big for the tank. There’s the AI Prime, which is obviously popular on nanos, but will that be a meaningful improvement on what I have? Would an XR15 with a diffuser do a better job?

I’ve thought about a second K7 mini but if I’m going to upgrade the app is terrible and I wouldn’t mind having more color
control. I also think it would be a pain to mount the two of them neatly given the peninsula layout. (Maybe upgrade to the K7 pro and I stomach the app?)

Open to ideas, thanks!

There's always the Noopsyche K7 Pro IIIs. You can turn it down some so you don't over light the tank.

Would the Pro be better for my issue than a Prime? Do you have a sense of how it would compare with the Radion?

I only use Noopsyche on my tanks. I've never had a Prime or Radions so I can't compare, sorry

Your current k7 mini is 60 watts, AI Prime is 55 watts, xr15 is 95-120 watts. Stronger watts equals stronger output.

Totally get that, which is what I liked about the K7 mini when I was buying parts for the tank. I’m more concerned with getting even distribution. I can turn up the mini but it won’t reduce shading.

Would your mini work better if it was extended out over more of the middle of the tank and that would put more light evenly over the rock base /corals?

I’m sure that would be an improvement but I think I’d still be wanting a more diffuse solution. With the peninsula setup it’s impossible to get the mini centered with the included arm. I’m not sure what to do to improve the placement in this setup without something that looks jury-rigged, but honestly I’m more concerned with even coverage.

There's also the AI Blade. Decent light. I have one on my office freshwater tank.
