I have a very small frag of pink *******. With a baster I blow the dirt/sand/algae off my frags. When I did this to my pink ******* frag, actual pieces of the chalice blew off:ooh:. I looked at it the next morning with a magnifying glass and saw small white filaments forming on the injured areas. I thought that it was a bacteria infection but now, 4-5 days later ,the injured area has grown back. I know the filaments weren't spaghetti worms because I have them. Was the actual coral repairing itself and growing? Or is there a bacterial infection going on here?

Hard to say....could it have just been detritus built up around the coral tissue or was it pretty apparent that this was different? Any pic?

Glad to hear it is healing considering this cost of the PB frags....that's the important thing : )

thanks soccerbag. No it was definitely not detritus. My camera sucks and wouldn't be able to catch that kind of detail. The filaments are smaller than spaghetti worms, white and growing in the injured/receded parts of the frag. When I checked back a couple of days later, they were gone and the chalice skin grew back. I guess I'll do some more research on the internet but so far I haven't been able to find anything. Do you recommend me giving it a dip in coral revive?

As long as it is healing and you are seeing new growth, I would not dip it. It would only stress it out a bit.. Not sure what it may have been. If you notice it again, you could dip then, but for now I would leave it alone as it seems whatever was there is now gone. Keep us posted. The PB is a hearty chalice so you have that on your side...: )

Fab, I had the same thing happen to my oregon mummy eye. I was scrappin some algae off the plug and dropped the plug and of course it fell chalice side down into the metal sink and damaged the middle of the chalice. The next day i noticed the white filaments I think you are refering to in the area that lost tissue and within 4-6 days the area was healed and I had 2 new eyes growing in that section. I would let the chalice heal itself dont do a dip yet.
