Looks like flat worms to me not black bugs… if it is indeed black bugs then it’s an uphill battle with interceptor and hopes and prayers as they’re nasty!

The white is consumed coral, the black tine spots are “bugs” that move…not flat worms I can see. Hoping I can find some biological control? Any ideas….

If this is the only coral infected I would yank it and dip it a few times over the next few days.. interceptor is the only in tank treatment and from what I’ve seen it’s not the best for black bugs as they’re stubborn. Red bugs and whit bugs it will take out quick.

Plan is to break the coral off and dip and return healthy parts, however the base is fully encrusted so can’t remove that, but bugs are on branches as far as I can tell….

Interceptor is not really a dip. Most people treat their entire tank with it. You have to get it prescribed from a vet, but it will kill black, red, and white acro bugs!

You can also buy it off Canada pet meds. Shipped to me in just over a week from Australia. I was dealing with white bugs and did a 6x the recommended dose for red bugs once a week for 3 weeks. Corals were turning around after the first treatment. Im really happy with how it went.

Not treating entire tank, seems only one coral is infected. Going to yank and dip first…

Use revive or Bayer for a dip… in tank would be interceptor.

Be sure it’s not NAEFW which is a new form of black aefw. However I believe dips just stun black bugs you’re going to need to treat with interceptor. I wouldn’t just assume it’s only on one coral. Better safe than sorry. Interceptor has no negative effects other than killing all crustaceans in your tank. Corals will be unaffected though!

Just wouldn’t be common on a monti.. montipora eating nudis sure.. I don’t even think black bugs mess with a monti but it’s possible I guess?

I've had a setosa get bugs before. I had to dose interceptor at a 10x recommended dose to get rid of them. I strongly recommend you confirm what you have before doing this. I lost a few acros from the dosing... good luck!

Not planning on treating entire tank, going to enjoy this coral to night and remove it tomorrow. Close examination shows infestation, just hoping other corals are not infested. Going to get a six line wrasse ASAP and prey....strange is coral is 1 year old and have not added anything in months.

Each dot is a bug....

Also…it has been 6 months since I added anything to the tank!

Ordering two fish, there must be some biological controls. Thoughts?

If it's bugs you will probably just watch your corals slowly wither and die. Ive got melanurus wrasse, long nose butterfly, 6 line wrasse, yellow coris wrasse and coppeband along with multiple mandarinfish. Nothing ever touched the bugs. They like to hide inside the coral polyps where fish can not get to them, they really dont start crawling on the flesh until the coral is being overtaken. Pull the trigger and get the interceptor. Cost me almost 200$ to treat my system at the 6x dosage but was probably some of the best money I've ever spent on pest prevention in my system.
