Hi everyone, my apology if this topic is redundant, but I have quite specific options and need your advice on this. I'm planning on building a new tank and I'd like to hear some advice from you guys, especially those who might have similar experience in this matter.

The tank is 180 cm long, 80 cm wide, and 60 cm high (6' x 31" x 24"), and it would be a mixed reef peninsula with mostly SPS with quite thick sand just because I love the look of it. I'd try to have as effective and efficient negative spaces as possible on the rockscape. It will function as a room divider from the foyer to the living room area. The thing is, I would love to have the maximum view from all three sides, which means there should be minimum, if not none, equipment on those sides. With that in mind, having a decent flow would be a challenge.

Here are several options I took into consideration for now:
  1. 2 MP60s, each on the sides of the overflow box halfway down under the water surface, and 2 closed loops to support them.
  2. the above set up with 3 more gyres. 2 sweeping the long side of the glass, 1 opposite to the overflow, pushing suspended (hopefully) waste and detritus down the drain.
  3. set up number 1 with only 1 gyre at the opposite of the overflow
  4. set up number 3 with 4 MP40s instead of 2 MP60s
There they are guys, I hope anyone can advise me on this, thanks!

I like #3 ,how many gph through the closed loop?

I have 4 pumps running on the return side of my 200g peninsula. Two jebao sdw-16 and two gyre xf350.

If I were to do it again, I would ditch the gyre and go with four sdw-16 or equivalent. Gyre mounted vertically just do not work well. Also gyre is a pain to clean.

Interesting! I rarely come across that model of jebao here. I'm also interested in the newly released DMP 40, just not sure it would be able to shoot enough flow across to the other side and back to make turbulence all over

I have a couple DMP 40s on the way! But my tank is only 4ft
I doubt I’ll turn it up full blast except to test it….i think I saw a video of a guy testing it on a tank closer to the size of yours

Yes I saw several review videos too on YouTube, his tank is 5' if I'm not mistaken and it shows quite a decent amount of flow just from 1 ph, hence I thought 4 from the same side might work fine

Two sdw 16 makes waves across the top and pulls everything back to the return from the bottom. I don't even turn my gyre on half the time because the sdw are enough. My biggest issue right now is having flow in the middle of the tank. My sps on top are doing great but the ones in the middle don't get enough flow. Hence why I wish I got two more sdw that I can put in the middle.

Honestly hoping my gyres die so I have an excuse to get rid of them.

Old pic of my tank with the gyres only just to give you an idea of my tank...you can see my walt disney on top. I lost most of it due to bacterial infection but it is coming back again.

Hey I know this is an oldish thread and it's somewhat threadjacking but... I've got a 36.5"x24.5"x25" peninsula with a centered internal overflow. I'm trying to figure out what powerheads I want to go with (that are in budget) and the SDW seems like a super good option as they move a LOT of water for the money. I can get 2 SDW16's for 120. Do you think 4 SDW16s (obviously turned way the hell down) would work decent? I was also wondering what kind of angle they throw the water out at.
