So I bought my first chalice frag last week and when I purchased the frag they (LFS) told me to superglue the cut edge to one of my rocks instead of having it attached to a plug or rubble. Long story short I got home and realized I did not have the right superglue and decided to try and work with what I got, which led to me to realize just how brittle chalice corals are. So now I've got this frag (2 inches) and its nearly split into two pieces which really freaked me out, but I've left it alone now for a week.

Heres a topdown shot of it in the bottom corner

Do you think its safe to go ahead and glue him down (have correct glue again) or should I let him stay where he is longer? Also the chances of a speedy kickin recovery? I know to keep it in low to moderate light and flow and its in a 30g nano w/ a 150w 20k radium bulb.

That looks like a hollywood stunner, super faster grower in the chalice world. I would find a small rock and super glue it down to that, then place in your reef. Becareful that one can get sweeper tentacles about 2" long!

I would leave it alone for a month and not stress it out it will be fine on the bottom most people grow theirs out in the sand :) hope that helped you

Agree with both posts above. You're fortunate in that it takes an act of GOD to kill off a Hollywood Stunner chalice. It will recover. Just leave it be and, as stated above, make sure that it's not within 3-5 inches of any other coral. It will kill whatever it's sweepers come into contact with. That's a great starting chalice! If you can keep that one alive and growing, you are well on your way to being able to add to your collection. Keep us posted!

Hard to tell from picture, but it seems that at least part of edge is in the sand. I would move it the edge in the sand will start to die. When fragged and/or moved chalices like many coral get stressed and will stop growing so the lenght of time for "recovery" probably just dependent on how quickly it gets used to its new home! I would not worry that it cracked in half as long as conditions are good and he is healthy you just ended up with 2 frags for the price of one. If it was me I would probably seperate the cracked pieces and glue them a piece of rubble or tile or something to keep the chalice off the sand and then put them on sandbed with moderate flow. Then once it is healthy and growing around the edges I would attach the rubble/tile to the spot in the tank I want it to be once I am convinced it will be happy there. I am personally very against gluing new frags to the main rocks in my tank (anything not easily moveable) because I often find I need to move it if the light/flow is not making it happy.

Thank you for your quick replies everyone! I am aware of the sweeper tentacles (did not know they could get to be 2 inches!) So I was planning on moving it to the other side of the tank as pictured in attachment. currently its on left corner I'd be gluing into that cave area on the right upright rock, thats kinda near an acan and rics, I know it will kill the acan but does it also kill the soft corals? And what about putting other chalices in the tank? Are chalice sweeper tentacles nice to other chalices or day they hate everyone?
