lp please!! Sailfin has been in quarantine for almost a month now. It looked like he had the start of fin rot so we started Maracyn 2. Just after, some dark spots showed up, they are becoming holes in his sides quickly. Never seen or heard of anything like this. Hope someone has an answer!!!

That looks like an infection. Not that it’s impossible, but even tanks riddled with severe uronema I’ve never seen a tang show symptoms. Not sure why just an observation I’ve had over the years. It’s still possible.

I’d use NFG (nitrofuracin green) as soon as possible. If you can’t get this soon, kanaplex, metroplex, and furan 2 combined would work until it arrives. Treat for 14 full days of NFG. Watch for ammonia as NFG is hard on the bio filter, and the bacteria dieoffs can cause blooms.

Thank you - we live in a very small town. I have to order everything so will get some nitrofuracin green coming.

IN the meantime, I have Maracyn 2 and Methlyn Blue. Would you recommend using either of those?

Maracyn will help, but do large water change before adding the new meds.

I'm happy to report he's made a full recovery!! Only had Maracyn2 but that and some water changes seemed to have turned things around.
Thanks for all the great advice
