Honestly I don't know where to start with this question
My tank has been setup for around 6 months. I bought a used setup from a neighbor and used as much of the setup as I could. What I thought was a Coralife Superskimmer 220 is actually a CSS 125 with a 220 collection cup. Tank is a 180G with a 65G (48x18x17) Sump/Refugium.
When I built the Sump/Refugium I made the refugium section as large as possible which in turn meant I made the skimmer and return section too small.
Currently I have a very small bio-load since I am new to saltwater
20 frags mixed
1 yellow tang, 1 sailfin tang, 2 clownfish, 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 6line wrasse,
about 10 snails, 4 shrimp and one dead kole tang that I cant find.
Water Parameters are good except for Mag
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
Phosphate - 0
Cal - 440
Alk - 10Dkh
Mag - 1600
Iron - 0
The Skimmer section is 8.5 inches and I could take out the first baffle of a 3 baffle bubble trap to make it 9.5 inches.
My concern is that even though everything is ok at the moment as my bioload increases it will eventually lead to a disaster.
Is it possible to have a large amount of Chaeto ~30 Gallons to make up for a small skimmer? If I need to replace the skimmer is there a skimmer that you recommend that would have a small enough footprint that would be ok?
The best answer to the question is rebuild the refugium/skimmer but since it took me 5 months to build it. Im trying to avoid that if at all possible. However it would be better to do that now than do it when this setup causes a problem. I guess Im trying to figure out if I am concernced about nothing or if there is an easy fix.
