Need help with microbubbles in a tank

Hey folks — I’m at the point of giving up. I’ve tried everything I can think of and still need fresh ideas.


Completely at random I’ll look at the tank and see a ton of bubbles come out of nowhere.


What I’ve already tried:


1. Moved the ATO to the drain section
2. Turned the skimmer off for 24 hours
3. Turned the kalk doser off for 24 hours
4. Changed wavemaker mode
5. Added a sponge between the refugium and the return
6. Turned off icecap drop in uv.

One extra note: I have seen this when I ran Ocean mode once, but I’ve been on Gyre mode since. I’m running XF350 gyres controlled by the Hydros Wave LE.

The one thing I haven’t tried is deleting the entire Hydros system and re-adding it. I keep thinking Hydros might be stuck in a mode.

I never had this issue with the Hydros ATO. I switched to a Tunze and still can’t figure out how bubbles are getting into the tank.

Also can aquawiz cause this ?
The probe is in return section.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe the return pump is creating a gyre and drawing air, now and again?
Same thing might happen with pumps inside the tank?

raise the water depth in the sump, or lower the circulation pumps in the tank??

So not sure if this will make sense but water dept in return section is 11 inches. So raise it more ? I have room but cant go too high cuz of backdrain in case if i loose power.

I thought reverse option in gyro mode can cause this but same issue in sps mode

If the pump is under 11 inches of water, it probably is not drawing in air from the surface.

Sounds like the gyre might be the source? If there is a whirlpool above the gyre, it may draw air from the surface. This usually makes a noise if the air gets sucked into the pump, and it can create air bubbles in the tank iff this is happening?

Yes it has to be drawing air from surface us what I'd say as well.. Maybe lower it down more or reduce flow.. But I'd just lower it down more.. Personally

Nope no whirpool. Im not sure if you guys can see it in video. Sps mode 100%

I can try temporary but the problem is it will blow directly on some sps frags.

Don't those things angle up or down? Never owned one..

Yes they do and all angled slightly downwards

Any Aquawiz users ? can this cause it ? only thing i did tried is to turn off aquawiz

SO folks it wasnt Aquawiz either , i turned it off and in the morning same thing , last thing is Gyres doing something

So the bubbles appear randomly and you cant tell at all where they are coming from? like if its from display or sump? where are the bubbles, at the top of the water column only?

Yes they appear randomly but i noticed it happens twice a day , overnight for sure , every morning i come to garage there are ton of bubbles. no its all over the tank cuz gyres are running so they keep moving and only way to get rid of them is to turn off Wavemaker for like 5 min all bubbles go away i know its bubbles and not fine sand cuz all go up

So folks interesting thing happened , i turned off my gyres just to rule them out and used my cheap Uniclif i think wave maker from amazon 80 $ or something (i use it to mix saltwater ) i had to lower the power because 1 wave maker making way to much flow lol. This is shame for big brands like Maxspect it cost fraction of gyres. Lets see it gyres were the reason
