This is my 10 gallon reef tank and I was wondering for some advice to deal with this algae. I was also wanting to know if it would be a good idea to get a small wave maker, if so which you recommend. Thanks in advance!

Looks like dinos. There is a very helpful group on Facebook that you could probably identify it better. A small wave maker will always help. Try Nero, it is very small but powerful.
Check this page on Facebook: Dinoflagellates Support Group Reef, or research Dinos here in R2R.

Looks like it could be dinos, and adding more flow is rarely a bad idea, within reason. Your surface water seems quite still, what do you have to circ now? What are you tank's parameter, particularly nitrate and phosphate?

It doesn't look bad to me, but definately needs a pair of powerheads in there to move the water. That is a lot of rock on the sandbed, it wil be detritus trap and grow algae forever unless you push more water through. I think just that in itself will go a very long way to fixing your tank.

I would also be doing weekly water changes religiously since a hob filter does nothing to combat algae and does not export any nutrients or dissolved organics.

Increasing flow and increasing water changes is what I would do here. good luck

Then you should definitely consider adding a circulation pump or two 🙂

Yeah I’m looking at the hygger mini right now or a Nero.
Hyggers work great. I would recommend two and placing them on opposite ends of the tank. The turbulent flow helps keep detritus suspended. Getting that out of a smaller tank like that is essential to controlling nutrients and algae.
