Need Your Photos for Acro Database

Hello All,

Since Acopora identification can get pretty trickey, I have been working on a Acropora identification database for sometime. I have most of the identifiers and listing already. The hardest part is getting good photos of corals I dont have. If you happen to have a clearly identified Acropora photo (especially of the coral form and/or a close up of a branch and coralites) and wouldnt mind sharing please PM me. I will give full credit to the photographer.

The basic approach I took on this was dividing up Acropora in groups based on Carden Wallace's grouping (she is by far the best Acropora identifier). I also included some of Vernons non-verified species for those common ones. Hopefully you can match your coral to the database based on the grouping.

If you interested in how to ID acropora I started an article (not done yet) from about a 3 month study with Eric Borneman (via email) on how to id acropora. It gets real tricky dealing with propigated acros since they almost morph over generation out of the ocean.

what an absolutely amazing and informative and well put together site. i am so impressed i can't even start to type. im not kidding either. to take the time and effort to do this, to work with well known and very reliable experts to give CORRECT and detailed info that helps so so so many people in many more ways than just wondering what acro you picked up today at your LFS, i mean WOW!!

i think i am even more in awe because you decided to take on this mammoth task of getting all this info together in one place that is easy to navigate and understand and it is something that i always wanted to do, yet never thought i had the time or the deep knowledge to start anything like this, let alone bring it to THIS level. you should be proud of yourself, and i also gotta thank the people who you contacted to help along the way, because it only adds to the content and integrity of this info. it is scientific, yet very straightforward, so SPS experts and newcomers alike can use this info to help them and teach them about the animals in their tanks.

i will frequently be on your site, not jus to learn more about the acros i have, or THINK i have (cause like u stated, so much can change over time with propagating and aquaculturing), but to really learn how acropora are "built" and what makes them, well, them! best of luck with this project, because i am sure it's an ongoing thing, and i kno that u will find the help with pics and information you need right here amongst our fellow R2Rers! and great looking zoa site too, wow. very very impressive.
