A few weeks ago I was at a coral show and was looking for a Monti rest to try in my Tank. It’s a mixed reef but just softies and Zoas to date.

He offered me this huge semi dead piece for $10 and I took it. Today I noticed a large brown swath forming down the middle.

My Alk is stable between 9.7-9.9. Ph is 8.02, Ca is 410, Mag is high at 1620. Nitrates are 20, phos is .2

Par reading where I have the Monti is 150-175 under Radion 15G6 running Coral Lab LPS/Soft at 65%.

First photo is a couple weeks ago when I got it. 2nd is today.

Thanks for any advice

Algae forming on skeleton. You could try more flow and different placement.
You could also frag up the last remaining pieces that still have viable tissue, and put them in different locations.
Phosphates are at the higher end, that may be contributing to the algae growth.

for me the par is a little low for monti, they like high light and high flow. As an sps it also likes much cleaner water than lps corals. It still has parts of it that are alive so it has a chance to come back. Monitpora's are very hardy, give it good light and flow.

More of the same. Frag it, i wouldnt blast it with light yet though, sometimes that can make a sick sps worse. Definitely make sure it has enough flow though. I think your po4 is fine for now, no knee jerk reactions, but long term bring it down. Moni is tough, ive had it grow like a weed in .5 po4. If your mag truely is that high, maybe a large water change to pull it down a bit.
