matters the size of the flame hawk. my friend has one that decided to just live in the overflow box for whatever reason lol. everytime he takes it out it just jumps back in. they dont move much but as im sure you know, can eat smaller fish. you are doing a great job asking. it isnt the best fish for this size aquarium but can be added if u intend to upgrade
in a couple of years im planning on upgrading to a 50ish gallon tank cause i know the hawkfish cant live in the 20g forever im gonna have a mesh lid so the hawkfish cant go out for safety reasons

my percs have been less aggressive than the ocys but it is all dependent on the individual
Oh but i think im still going gor the occelaris cause even if they are a bit more aggresive the hawkfish could be aggresive too so theres no bullying hawkfish have had mixed opinion some say they are bullys some say they are model citizens hoppefully both my clowns and hawks are the later

Oh so the 20g cube is a bit small for the hawkfish ive seen so many mixed opinions so i dont know if the hawkfish needs a bigger tank or not but are hawkfishes really active if so ill try to find anither fish
Mine is extremely active, he is always bouncing around my tank.

What im tryna say is i will just get a pair of clowns and the flame hawk also i have a bare bottom tank so gobys like yashas ane what not are a no go
I think you should get sand regardless, it'll give you good selection on your clean up crew like snails & crabs. One thing to consider with the flame hawk, it likes to perch so I'd consider getting it sand and live rock.

I actually wanted to get a flame hawk for my nano until I heard about their temperament with shrimps and inverts. It's a great fish but I'm willing to wait until I upgrade tanks in the near future. A good replacement for your tank size can be a tailspot blenny, it don't grow as big, it perches like the hawkfish and most important, it's 100% reef safe.

IMO damsels are very territorial and will aggressively defend their space, and the tank is a little small for the hawkfish, so I would keep it to only these 2 fish. If you really want more fish, I would select more peaceful community fish.
Agreed, damsels from my experience are too aggressive for nanos

What sizes does your LFS sell the hawkfishes at? If it's under 1 inch I'll take the chances. If it's almost full grown like 3-4 inches I would be cautious since your nano fish don't get that big

For me i will not get sand cause i use a gyre pump so no sand gets on my coral also from where im at the lfs doesnt sell tailspot blennies and i dont want a bicolor also flame hawks i will get from a special store that gets in imported fish like flame hawks also why im using a gyre its a bit piwerul but i need it to compensate for my weak pump and im planning on getting sps in the near future

Oh but is it fine if i have lots of live rock and caves?
He doesnt like caves. He perches on everything. I dont think there would be enough perching room in that small of a tank.
