Good morning everyone. So a few months ago I unexpectedly lost my diamond goby 😢 . I don't know what happened, he had been just fine. But since then, I can definitely see a difference in my sand. I have a good CUC, including many nassarrius. But my question is can I add a new diamond goby to this established tank. Current inhabitants are a naso tang, a foxface, a pair of ocellerus clowns, a six line wrasse, a coral beauty angel, a YWG, a skunk cleaner shrimp, many corals and BTA's.

It is a 90 gallon. I already know that I will need to be re homing the Naso and the foxface. They are currently only about 5 inches each. I did NOT know this when I bought them. I have quite a bit of live rock. I would say about 75- 80 pounds. So plenty of rockwork.

Does anybody here have any input on this? I really want to get another diamond goby. But if that is not a good idea with current tank inhabitants, or if there is a better idea, I am open to either. I just really need another sand sifter.

My sand sifting star keeps my sand bed spotless but my tank is definitely much smaller. I have a conch too but it doesn’t seem to do as much as the star

Yeah I have 2 tiger conchs, and lots of snails of varying types. I am just noticing a big difference since the loss of my goby. He stirred sand all day long. I actually wondered if that is not what got him. I think he ate a bristle worm.

A new diamond Goby would be fine, just make sure you're able to get it feeding on prepared foods quickly in case the microfauna in your sand bed is not enough to keep it healthy long term. Shouldn't be too hard since these gobies usually take to mysis and other chopped up foods pretty easily and will also eat pellets.

The biggest thing I'd worry about is the starting condition of the fish when you receive it, for that reason I would only choose a Goby in person from a reputable LFS and not have it shipped. The Goby should be round around the belly without a sunken stomach or malnourished look and be readily eating prepared foods.

Yeah, I NEVER by fish and have them shipped. I only purchase from one local store. It's not a franchise, just one guy, and he is great.

I have heard diamond goby can starve if there’s not enough food in the sand bed.

How long have you had your previous goby?
