So I just added my 2 black oscillators clownfish 3 weeks ago (and I cycled for 4 months before). This is a 10 gallon tank. I’m now getting into the “ugly stage” although very premature. There are small dots on the side glass, on some of my rocks, and on the sand bed. I have 2 snails right now, although only 1 is very active and the other sleeps a lot. How can I minimize the upcoming algae growth? I’m doing my weekly water change right now but I’m wondering if I can do anything before that. can I scrub off the algae? Should I get more snails / get hermits?

Bonus question- my clownfish have just been in multiple corners of my tank, and they sleep a lot, behind the rocks. I don’t see them very often go in front of the rocks, and it’s pretty disappointing- I always just look at rocks, rather than fish :( is this normal? What could I do to make them swim more out in the open?

It's very common to have the uglies for sometime when first starting a reef tank. It will pass in time.

Clowns will find a place they feel safe in, even if it's behind rocks. I've had mine for ten years and they still like to live behind my rocks.

uglies- water change, pull stringy stuff by hand and make use of a clean up crew ( Turbo snails, margarita snails, Nassarius snails and crocus snails)
