The tank will be 120x36x27 (500g)
I'm considering doing a coast-to-coast external overflow on the back panel. Does anyone have one on a tank this size, and, are you happy with it? The alternative is two smaller external overflows. Both options would be running bean animal.

Other things
I would have 4 return holes and 2 closed-loop holes drilled for the UV system. Is it overkill to have some holes drilled on the bottom panel for closed-loop flow?

Not overkill. I have 7 Returns on my 660g and upcoming 1500 g will have 12.
My overflow is on the right side of tank. There are so many configurations for larger tanks than just your standard bean animal
Externals as you mentioned may make servicing a little simpler

Do you run any closed loops on the 660? Any pics of the overflow configuration?
