Fords and Aston.jpg

OK first of all, by the time many of you are reading this, perhaps they've changed my name back to 4FordFamily. Apparently, my fellow moderators think its' funny to change my name to 3Ford1AstonFamily, so now I guess I need to explain myself.

You see, this one is technically a Ford, sort of -- seeing as Ford owned Aston during the time this era DBS was designed/conjured/officially announced. The V12 motor was built in a Ford plant in Germany. It was designed by a primarily Ford/Jag/Aston designer Ian Callum. OK so he designed the parent car the DB9, close enough. His brother Moray Callum is on Ford's payroll as Vice President of Design for Ford. Ian worked for Jag from 1999 until 2019.

Anyway I bought one of my dream cars, a 2010 Aston Martin DBS Volante. Those unfamiliar with Aston terminology, the world Volante simply means convertible in the AM world.

It's not the fastest, it's not the most luxurious, but it's one of my all-time favorite cars. Carbon fiber everywhere from the factory, carbon-ceramic brakes, 510+ HP V12, and old enough that the depreciation curve is more friendly. Oh, and before anyone mentions it -- yes it was featured in at least two James Bond films, and I admit this is where my love affair for Aston Martin began.

OK less text and more pictures:

It still needs a good detail and some minor touch up work aesthetically, but it's in pretty good shape overall for a 9 year old car.

@HotRocks I know you were involved in the name change. I am staring grumpily at you too, @revhtree!

Very nice!

But you actually want it to be made by Ford? Gross.

;)
LOL Thanks. I love my Fords. My stable has to match-- or at least loosely. I think that OCD is part of the motivation for the name change. This kind of thing bothers me and I battled it mentally before the purchase.

Just giving you a hard time! I can see wanting everyting to match. It really is an amazing car.

They are nice cars. Nice pick up. I thought you may be saving the space for a GT500... ;)

I've been calling various dealers, even across state lines, to get a reasonable lead on a GT500 with a reasonable ADM. Just not happening. What I found rather interesting is that a few of them even said in joking not even a friend or family will get MSRP during the first year. $25K easy with a few saying they already have 50K on the table.

Very nice car! I’m happy for you! I think it’s important to get your dream car. Very satisfied with my manual E92 M3. :)

I wasn’t sure if you were talking about Shelby at first with your thread title. My father in laws new truck is a beast. Your Aston is sicker though!

Nothing wrong with an Aston. I miss my Vantage. :(

But in regards to Ford, where do you think some of the styling and technology for the new Mustang came from??????

Yup! Lots of Volvo and Jag (also Ford in same era)— When they owned Rover they used a lot of them for the explorers and still use a lot of the tech today. I call my newer explorer sport my “Poor Man’s Rover”

Yes I am holding out for an AWD version. I love Shelby. Like you, no way I’m paying the demand markup for them, and I think we are a couple of years away from the AWD version. Can you imagine 760 and AWD? Oh man...

but...... does it do burnouts?

in all seriousness though, beautiful ride, Astons have glorious lines.

Yes it’ll smoke the tires! Thanks :)

That’s a real nice truck! If not for the fact that I’d have to wait for the new GT500, especially for the AWD iteration that’s not even announced yet, it very nearly could have been a Shelby anything. I even looked at 1960s Fauxbras (kit car replicas) but ultimately decided on this after not being able to find something I wanted bad enough.

Just spring for the Ford GT ;)

Never happen. I have an entire row at my shop dedicated to dead Ford's... My Chevy's run like a top! Dodges too! Well Cummins under the hood. Not a single dead one out in the lot.

This is what my shop lot looks like from all my Ford transmissions... And engines...

You may not know this, but you do have to change the oil on the Fords! :D

That is a funny pic, I am just jazzing you

No need to change the oil. They die before they get to the mileage that requires a change! :)

Especially not worth changing once they are in the scrap pile. Haha!
