Hello everyone,

I just set up 125 gallon tank, and for the last a couple days has been making RODI water and mixing salt/making saltwater. I have spectrum made company RODI system with two membrane, each 90 gpd, and the water pressure was only 25 psi. So, in order to make my water faster for new tank as my cured and cleaned pukani live rocks were sitting in the box since Wednesday last week, I went to purchase water pressure / booster pump. A guy who own the store that sold me the pump installed it for me, but I still do not get any boost from that pump as it shuts off as soon as I turn the water on. Cannot go over 35psi and as soon as it reach 35psi, it shuts down.

Now I made already about 65 gallons for 125 g tank, and tonight I placed these 40lbs of cured and cleaned pukani live rocks (from premium aquatics), installed 250xf gyro pump, etc. I still have about 45-50lbs live rocks in my old 55 gallon tank, but I first need to clean it as I let it be overgrown with some brown "mushrooms" that literally cover all rocks and even pumps. So, here my two questions:

1. Will adding the rest of 50-55 gallon of water later today do something bad to the tank that probably already started with cycle as tonight?

2. How can I safely add these live rocks from my 55 gallon after cleaning them from these "mushrooms" on it, but not to "crash" the cycle of tank?

Any help I'd appreciate.

Thanks,
Almir

The booster pump should have had a much bigger impact on your PSI. Just boosting it by 10psi doesn't sound right and having it shut off after hitting 35psi is odd too. Something not right there. My house pressure sits at 45psi and when I added my pump it jumped up to 90psi. I think you may have a bad pump or it's not installed correctly.

If I Was setting up a new 125 gal tank I'd go all New and throw out that old **** if you don't want any of the same issues from the old tank in the new. I would then let the tank cycle before I added any fish or corals to it. You can add old mushroom rock if you want but it will be less time to patiently wait for a cycle then fight mushrooms or tank crash issues. I guess it is possible your plan could work but I love the idea of starting with a new tank with all new rock in it. I'm no expert though just giving you my opinion, good luck.

But rocks that I have in my old tank are very well desired monado live rocks. They have beautiful colors, very nice shapes, etc. I'd love to save those rocks, although I have everything new in my new tank.

I ment sit them out in the sun to kill anything bad. I just went through trying to preserve my sand/rock and I have been fighting algae for three months now....

I am in Chicago and that means I won't see nor my rocks any sun until the end of May. :)

If the tank cycling, anything that's is alive in rock will die because of not established bacteria or bio-life in the tank for what reason the tank is cycling. So, if there is something to die from the rock, isn't that going to be even better to spike ammonia at the beginning to start cycle faster?!
