New tilefish, new flukes?

Once again you already did praziquantal along with hyposalinity and freshwater dips. You don’t have flukes. Instead now all your doing is stressing your fish out more putting them through hyposalinity again with more freshwater dips.. great idea

@vetteguy53081 glad your constantly giving people false information the prazi is active for 8 straight days 👍 even jay knows I’m right
Isnt it funny they all recover base on such advise with no ill effects and you have disagreed with everyone including Jay, Bobby of humble fish and other sources. My results are from decades of Experience but Im done discussing this . As Mentioned by Christina, start your own thread on this topic

I will start a different thread but you’re wrong. Bobby and Jay both even say the prazi is only active 1 to 3 days due to degradation and it’s true. Why else would the bottle even state as well don’t dose anymore then every 3-5 days if it lasted 8…

@Jay Hemdal but doesn’t hypo prevent the eggs from hatching? This is why it would’ve worked there shouldn’t be anymore flukes unless some sort of cross contamination happened
That’s what I meant by “waiting the eggs out” - the larva of any that hatch during hypo die. As long as all the eggs have hatched under hypo, the infection has been broken.

Can you point me to the post where I said they were currently in hypo? They've been back at full salinity for a week now and have been out of therapeutic hypo even longer.

19 days of hypo does NOT guarantee that no eggs were left behind when I raised the salinity again. This is exactly why I'm still observing them and considering another diagnostic FW dip, especially after still seeing some head shaking.

Also, I never did prazi along with hyposalinity or FW dip, where did you read that? They were done sequentially: GC, then prazi, then a FW dip that confirmed the flukes were still present, then hyposalinity.

No offense, but your theories throughout this thread have been completely wrong. In your previous post, you said they couldn't still have flukes after all the GC + prazi treatments, and that it had to be something else.

This picture was taken right after a FW dip, following all the GC + prazi treatments... Have you even seen it?

This is my last reply on this. You came into this thread after we've already gone through many treatments, didn't bother to read the full history and still gave advice that was clearly wrong. And instead of admitting that, you've just kept backpedaling. If you had given me that same advice back then and I had followed it, both of these fish would've been dead.

Never said u did it at the same time with hypo guess you can’t still read.. why are u still replying do you want me to leave this thread or not

Theories are 100% correct oh and good job you made your fish lose its eye as well worrying so much about flukes 👍

I've been subscribed to this thread since the beginning, since I want to see how this situation plays out. I'm not sure how many people could've kept these two fish alive for as long as Christina has, given their parasite load and the physical trauma/infections they've dealt with, all while quarantining.

The fact these fish are still alive (and recovering) is a testament to this aquarist's skill and dedication, and the helpfulness of some incredibly knowledgeable and experienced people.

Christina: I know this has been a marathon, but keep up the good work! These fish are lucky to be in your care.

@christinna77 how many chemicals are you going to using and keep guessing from prazi to hypo to ruby rally api eryathermicyin keep stressing your fish your doing a good job

losing an eye is recovering? Putting fish through freshwater dips, copper, prazi then hypo then ruby rally then api api erythromycin and doing hypo just to not even finish it is not skill it’s a lack of understanding what disease they are trying to treat one at a time while stressing the fish way more then they should be. The only treatment that was understable was copper and hypo and yet do 19 days hypo and not even finish the course just to do again that makes sense..

Sick of reading your posts.

I’m not sure what bacteria they feed on, but most external marine fish pathogens are gram negative.

They actually feed on both from what research papers I have read, along side dead or dying matter of any kind, and detritus as we know.

I think the wound looks a little better today and seems slightly flatter. He's most likely going to end up with one eye, since it looks like the middle of his eye is gone now that I was able to get a better look, but I love him no matter what.

Now, I've no idea if it was the cipro or erythromycin that's helped here, so I'm just going to finish both meds and not change anything, as long as he's looking a bit better each day.

These are quite power full bacterial infection meds. How much Cipro did you use? And how much erythormycin?

Per Humble's instructions: 250 mg/g of Cipro in a 1-2h bath (so far I've done around 1.5h each time), combined with 1 ml/g of 1% methylene blue.

For API Erythromycin, I used slightly less than one packet since my quarantine tank holds about 9g of water and each packet treats 10g.

On another note, can anyone explain this strange behavior? I've mentioned it a few times before, but I still haven't been able to figure out why he does it.

It started when he had flukes. I think he does it less now, but he still swims up to the airstone, stays vertical, opens his mouth wide for around 5 seconds seconds and lets the bubbles hit him. Could this be giving him some relief if his gills or mouth are still inflamed from the infection? I'm just really confused.

This was recorded today.

I really hate auto correct. Seems like, as the years go by, autocorrect gets dumber! Haha.

Either way Cipro bath sounds about right. And Methlene does have healing properties. Sadly this eye is probably not going to make it. And even if it does it might not be a useful one. But fish do surprise me at times with healing capabilities.

As for erythromycin I’m guessing you’re doing a QT tank for multiple days? Personally I don’t like the api stuff. Have it and have yet to used it. Only brought it, being it’s all I could get when I was I need of erythromycin. It has sodium chloride as a 80% filler think and silica. Maracyn by Fritz is 35% erythromycin. Unless you can source pure erythromycin. It’s what I have now.

But if it’s working keep it up. No reason to change.

Have an angles that goes after bubbles. But nothing is wrong with him. Usually if there is gill issues fish will try to find stronger current. Example velvet makes them swim in the stronger current of the power head or return nozzles.
