New Trident?

I also have some reservations about the waste. If it needs to be neutralized how many times am I going to be doing that? I don’t want a 1 gallon jar for waste under my tank. My trident one is tiny to save space and gets emptied once a week.

I purchased their 1 gallon waste jug which was like $4. They say each test takes 30ml of tank water, so if you test twice per day you'd need to empty the jug roughly once every 2 months or so (1 gallon = 3,785ml / 60ml = 63 days). You can test as little as once per day, which would bump it to emptying every ~4 months.

Every time I ask people say they got the info from beta testers.

I am hopeful the phosphate tests are as described "Phosphate: +/- 0.01 PPM, +/- 5% of reading". If not, this thing will be an epic fail, which IMO would be surprising.

Every problem I've had has been easily traceable to maintenance or an error on my end. Just my 2 cents.
We are asking a very inexpensive device to do a very precise test with the exact same results as a lab grade machine costing 100's of thousands of dollars more. Kudos to all the aquarium device engineers and manufacturers for bringing us these devices at an affordable price point.

My wife is a lab technician at a major hospital. Even the expensive lab equipment needs to maintainenced constantly.

When you run reagents through tiny tiny tubes, there is breakdown, wear down and clogs that happen, it's inevitable there's nothing you can do about it. Get familiar with the equipment and learn how to service it by yourself. Whether it's the Trident, Alkatronic, KH Carer, or even the Maven. It will have parts that break and tubes that pop off or clog. If big pharma hasn't fixed these issues, not sure the aquarium hobby is going to. Learn how to fix it. For your own sake.

Real problem is, the products feed the lazy reefer in us and then when it asks us to not be lazy, it just makes us upset lol.

Where are you ordering 5 from? it looks like they are out of stock.

They limit it to one to prevent price gouging and people trying to profit off of reselling them when they are hard to come by.

The likely reason is that the reagents can't be shipped air transport, and must be shipped ground due to the acid. This is why they didn't include the reagents in the main box/package. You likely won't be able to take the reagents on a plane.

I can’t be the only one when seeing the price of over $700 to laugh out loud for a nitate and phosphate tester. If you have the money to blow good for you but that’s insane amount of money to just test nitrates and phosphates. Good ole Hanna checker once a week will do the job

I work in a Treatment plant. We are SUPPOSED to dump the waste into a drain connected to a 5 gallons neutralizing tank filled with limestone as per EPA. We do about 40ml of waste per day. Is it really necessary? You decide.

It is unclear whether this statement will have the intended purpose. This hobby attracts individuals from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, it can be argued that price point conciderations are primarily tailored toward the higher end of that spectrum. This may force individuals with limited financial resources to pay to play, or suffer the implied sense of anxiety or inadequacy due to the fear of missing out.

My guess, whats in it has known corrosive or acidic properties regulated is some form or fashion by the EPA. Neptune doing its due diligence to not eat a lawsuit or fines for the few people who will let it sit in the trap of their sink and get mad when it eats through the pipe over a few years. Of course thats my uneducated butt guessing. I just need a scientist in here to tell me if the neutralizer is just liquid baking soda aka Sodium Bicarb. :grinning-face-with-sweat:

They are doing the right thing as I'm sure any other manufacture will do should their reagents work similar. Hobbyist should heed the information and do the right thing. As far as your neutralizer baking soda or bicarb we'll have to wait and see what they say. I'm sure they will talk about it as that is pretty important. Especially if hobbyist have different container size constraints.
