EXCITING NEWS!

This thread is aimed at sharing with you an ambitious new project.

TRITON is proud to be the first company in the reef keeping industry to take the next big step towards a deeper understanding of chemical and biological husbandry. Setting up a laboratory and research division on the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns, Queensland, Australia we are uniquely positioned to study the various reefal habitats and create new, ground breaking products for our industry.

We believe that this step is similar in magnitude, for aquarium husbandry, as was the development and introduction by TRITON of HPLC and ICP lab testing over a decade ago.

These things don’t happen overnight as you will see in the posts to come. We hope you enjoy the journey from concept to completion….

What specifically are you planning to study?

During my 20 years working and collecting with Cairns Marine, one of Australia's largest coral export companies, I observed many specialised habitats on the reef each with their own distinct species composition. There are areas with dominant mono-colonies which might have unique water chemistry characteristics and some of the inshore reefs receive an enormous variety of water conditions with large nutrient and element influxes seasonally and with tidal change. There are even some estuarine areas of interest. After discussions with Vincent Chalias and Ehsan we have identified numerous locations and habitats that need further investigation. Having a research facility on the GBR is the only real way to produce valuable data and by far the most efficient.

Really looking forward to seeing this come together. Hopefully a local presence and some the research will help promote the Triton brand in Australia as well (it'd be great to see somewhere selling more than just ICP kits and the occasional CORE7).

It's been a month, more pics :p

We have had some delays with the ICP machine arriving in Australia due to freight restrictions associated with the current pandemic which means that Ehsan and the TRITON team have thrown their efforts into some exciting new ICP test result upgrades that you guys will appreciate when they are unveiled in the next few weeks. Rest assured we are never happy to sit on our hands :)

We expect the new lab will be operational in July and are already mapping out water parameter research into a variety of micro-habitats on the Great Barrier Reef over the months ahead.

Stay tuned....
