Keep in mind that they use ammonium for food and nitrate and phosphate for building blocks. Make sure that there is enough flow that gets in there for it to keep healthy.

Yes, my tank has been rather dirty as of late. Maybe the clam will help clean it up :D

You can try DIY a cage by using egg crate and cover up the clam away from the fish.
