Nuptial coloring in fish

These types of pics tend to be hard to find. It only lasts for seconds at a time, and they swim aggressively when it happens, so pictures are scarce.

Here are some of mine.

Pintail/isosceles fairy wrasse. The electric purple/blue patch on his back and stripe is really strong and then it fades away to pumpkin orange. The patch is completely gone when he isn’t flashing.

This is the king of my fairy wrasses. He’s quite gentle, even though he flashes and displays colors often. He’s really large and just enjoys cruising.

Ruler of my resplendent anthias. I have 6. He makes sure to let others know who’s boss.

This one isn’t a good pic, but it’s rare to see pictures of rhomboids flashing. He gets a light purple band vertically across his body.
