Off Topic --- What's Everyone Doing For This Long Weekend?

I remember those times vividly. My family is grown. My son is out and my daughter is still here. Great job Dad!

He just got down how to use a spinning reel and was out there for about 2 hours just casting and reeling it back in!

Cleaned out the sump on the big tank… just going to say wow. Trying to figure out whether I have it in me to drive to one of the zoos that are a couple of hours away from our house so the kids do something slightly different but wanting to just lay low. Stressing about having to put together slides for a big presentation at work next week but procrastinating. Will probably fire up the grill for the last time this year either tomorrow or on Monday. Thinking some ribs might do nicely.

The older I get the more it’s a treasure to just stay home. Running an errand is going out for me. Enjoy cleaning and maintaining my tank. Fish and coral don’t talk or make noise, love them. On a serious note, I’m working the full Labor Day weekend in healthcare.

Today I canned salsa, jalapeño pepper slices and rendered down 2 cups of jalapeños, 8 cups of tomato's, various herbs and spices into a decent hot sauce.


Since the weather will be nice for several days....ripping off rotting clapboards and replacing them on my house, not a big section should take a day to replace and paint.

Then a water change. Then back to canning dilly beans.

Apples and pears are getting close to pick as well.

Last night one of my clowns was laying on its side breathing heavy. Purple tang trying to swipe it. I thought it was a goner.
Lights went out, I went to bed.
Today he's fine. Thank God, nothing I could do when out of the country.
So strange, the only fish having a problem. He's 10 years old.

Just mixed up my first batch of 15 gallons saltwater. Landed at 1.0236 using the Instant Ocean guidance of 1.5 lb per 5 gallon. Going to get the QT cycling ASAP.

Going to get the quarantine tank going this weekend. Tampa Bay real live rock arriving Sept 11 for the new main tank under construction.

Son goes back to school starting 4th grade on Tuesday. Late start. Growing up too fast.

I have only hunted once. Rabbits. Scott got 21, Dad got 11 and I got 2. I was about 14 with a 20G. I was a tallish thin kid with not a lot of weight on me. So it knocked me back pretty good (We DID eat them, so nothing went to waste). I had fun!

I've sense retired from hunting, that being said it was some of the best times in my life. During bear season we would take horses up into the high country and slept under the stars. Those who have hunted this way, rifles in a scabbed, your gear on the back of the horse riding switch backs with no human around. I was able to experience as close to living in the 1800's traveling through the mountains as one could today. I feel lucky about my time hunting.

My young peach tree had tons of little peaches on it this year. Gray squirrels took every one and a month ago they started on the apples.

I told my wife I was considering taking up squirrel hunting, the season started today.
