Hello all I just started running ecobak in my 40 breeder with CPR nano reactor!
I added 1/4 of a 250 ml jar of ecobak
It's been running about a week tank is doing great should I add another 1/4 jar or just leave it?

Got all my orders placed to get my EcoBak reactor up and running. Got a medium size reactor from Rick (mixer911), 1000mL of Ecobak and an Eco Plus 396 from Amazon. Hope to have all this up and running in the next few weeks!

I would leave it for another 3 weeks at least. then add another 1/4. And keep testing to make sure you dont strip the tank of NO3 and PO4 too fast. You want a slow drop in parameters. So your testing will determine how much pellets you will run initially.

Chris, do you think that the Avast nozzle mod will work on a Atomic Reef reactor?

Does the bacteria need to be added to the bio-pellets if adding a reactor to an aquarium that has been running for almost a year?

It doesnt matter how old the tank is. The bacteria that lives and feeds on the pellets are naturally occurring in your tank. You do not have to seed your pellets at all. But you can add bacteria, i.e. MB7, prodibio, etc, but it isnt necessary.

Typed from my phone, because I have nothing better to do.

That would be a yes on the nozzle mod. you will however have to cut the existing pipe and glue on the nozzle. Even though they make it sound like it will just slip on. So you have to use a paper clip to clean the holes on the nozzle. Because they are small and will clog. Not too bad, and I totally recommend it, just letting you guys know.

A 40g isn't really big enough to keep 2 mandarins fed well. They eat a lot and if they don't take to prepared foods they could starve or 1 might kill the other.

I've been running 500 ml Eco-Bak in a Reef Dynamics reactor since 10/15 on my tank. It is a 150 gallon display with a 25 gallon sump. With volume taken up by rock and equipment, I've been estimating the volume at 150 gallon. I began with 250 ml and increased to 500 after three weeks. I know I need to increase the bio-pellets to 750 ml eventually to the prescribed dose.

My Nitrates have been running 1.5-2.0 ppm in the tank. However, this morning I had the bright idea to test the nitrates on the effluent from the reactor and compare that with the concentration in the tank. To my surprise, both returned the same results for nitrate at 2.0 ppm. Shouldn't the effluent from the reactor effluent be lower than the tank? Have I not given it sufficient time to begin working? Should I increase the bio-pellets to 750 ml now? The Reef Dynamics reactor allows me to adjust the flow through the reactor...should I increase the flow?

Or, should I have more patience and not worry about it just yet?
