Hi Guys, I have been a Reef2Reef member for a few years, our last tank was a Planet Aquariums, 96” L by 24” W by 20” deep that had a custom sump running a modified triton method with large refugium supported by two H80’s an Eshopps A-200 skimmer, and Calcium reactor the lighting came from three AP700’s and in tank flow was covered by Gyre XF-280’s. Well after the great Texas snow storm we had pipes burst, foundation drop 7 inches from front to back, sewer pipes break and had to resort to my wife, child, four dogs, three cats, and a ball python living in a single 10x12 bedroom and sharing a guest bath while we fought with USAA and racked up debt making home renovations. I also had to have spinal fusion during this time period from an old war injury that finally caught up to me. Needless to say we had to liquidate our system to help fund the repairs to the home and also to reduce stress on our fish with the massive work that took place. So fast forward we bought a used wreck of a 180 rehabbed the stand, resealed the tank, and built a canopy for it. We all deal with Mental Health issues and our animals are part of our therapy. My wife and I are also both public educators so being able to come home shut off the noise and relax is something we both need. We are currently looking for bargain basement equipment which we will work to upgrade as finances allow so if you have some used equipment at rock bottom prices give me a shout !

Sorry to hear about your experience. It must have been a real ordeal

It was pretty bad we almost divorced due to all the stress of dealing with lawyers, USAA, third party adjusters, a contractor who we thought could be trusted that tried to come back and ask for another 30k after he had already given us a paid in full receipt, both of us finishing up our teaching degrees lol we weathered the storm but cannot lie it looked really bleak for a few months wife ended up hospitalized full on Maury or Oprah type of crap .

Thanks can’t wait we start winter break on Friday so I am looking at ordering dry rock and working on the scape over the break
Add also live rock to reduce chance of diatoms and assist with cycling of the tank

Thanks vetteguy53081 what generation Vette do you own? Before I went into the Army I was a Vette mechanic and had a C5 Z06. Uncle has a C7 Z06.

To be honest I think the C6 Z06 is the best all round Vette ever. I also like how I fit in the C6’s the C7 roof line is too low and narrow. The C8 opened back up but I don’t like the rear engine design to me a Vette should be long nosed front engine rear wheel drive with a manual transmission

So I have always started with dry rock and do a prolonged no light cycle, always kinda scared of introducing pests lol. My first tank didn’t get lit until the third month I however have been watching more and more successful “insta” cycle tanks on YouTube, BRS etc. so I may consider grabbing a piece or two of live rock from someone local if I can find it to throw in the sump

So this is what I am looking at gunna go for a negative space scape and a medium flow tank for a mixed reef don’t want blowing sand to be a problem and have really liked the look of many of the WWC tanks with the crushed coral “sand beds”
