I maybe did not place my tank in the best place. I walk by it a good amount in a day, and my goby has some of his favorite holes, dug in towards the front of the tank. I don't have to get very close, before he gets scared, and retreats into his hole. Is there any kind of tape, which would provide viewing of my tank, yet not allow him to see outside of the tank, preventing him from getting spooked? Or is there another solution?

I don't think you'd want to use one way mirror tape. That's one of the reasons many paint the back glass black, to prevent the fish from seeing their reflections. So many are aggressive towards their own species = higher stress.

How long have u had him? Mine was really shy at first. I target fed w turkey baster right at the mouth of his cave. Eventually learned the deal and will now venture out at feeding time. Not all the way out mind u. But I can usually see his little head poking out :)

They've been living together here for several months now.
No other fish, besides some clown fish, that don't really bother them.
