Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of setting up a new SPS aquarium. This aquarium will have about 80 gallons of net water.

I'm debating whether to use the Triton method or another method. I'm drawn to the idea of not having to do water changes.

Are there people here who use this method with good results?

I'm open to other options. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd be happy to hear your ideas.

Cheers

Additional information:

My idea is to have an easy-to-maintain SPS aquarium. I don't want Acropora corals, and I'd like to keep maintenance to a minimum. I don't want to neglect my aquarium and I'm committed to it; I just don't want overly tedious upkeep.

I'll be using a minimalist aquarium with a moderate coral load.

I have run my aquarium in Triton mode using Core 7 for 10 years now. 8 of them without regular WC. Maybe not low maintenance in the way of put and look but regular ICP testing. regular dosing, regular rinsing of macroalgae and so on. Please see my build thread. Its a mixed reef

Rinsing the macros? Care to explain? Assuming it’s set up to Tritons method with no mechanical filtration and macros first inline in the sump it’s becoming a detritus trap is my guess?

Excuse my Swenglish ---- I meant harvesting macros.

Not so much - there is a lot of different grazers of organic matter in the refugium - they clean the Macros rather well

I don’t see how such a method makes water changes less useful, but large numbers, perhaps even a majority of reefers use some variation of 2/3/4 part dosing systems.

Yes that’s why I was wondering if you were rinsing them? I’ve never found it needed as the pods and other life seem to love it.
