I brought home a orange spotted goy and a tiger pistol shrimp yesterday at around 8 from the lfs, the bag was floated for 15 min, and drip acclimated for 50min. After placing them in the tank the shrimp was fine scooting around a bit before finding a nice cave, but the goby swam in and stayed in the front corner, barely moving, he stayed tucked into the corner on the sand bed all night and is still there this morning. It looks like is slowly breathing and keeping upright, but saying in the same spot in the corner. Any thoughts or advise? Is it ok?

Tank is 33g it has been set up for a month with good levels, no measurable ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. PH is around 8 Salinity 1.26. Tank life is 1 PJ cardinal (been in tank for 2 weeks), GSP, orange mushroom.

Did you check the salinity in the bag from the store?

He is likely fine and just settling in, but I thought mentioning salinity is worth it, just in case.

I wouldn't worry as much, I would try food to entice him to start feeling comfortable. Blennies and gobies are nervous fish in my experience especially when first introduced in a tank and it takes them a while to acclimate (even more so if the salinity was off like others suggested).

The one thing I would be making sure is that you have a cover on your tank now because it will be extremely easy to spook him especially now and he can jump out in no time. I lost two of them like that.

Thanks! I didn't check the salinity, but the LFS said he kept his tanks at 1.026, so it should be pretty much the same. He did move now, under some rock, looks like he will be ok, will try to feed tonight. Thanks for all the comments, new to reef so I was pretty worried.

Glad we could help. Please keep the cover thing in mind, he has high chances of attempting escape! :)

Looks like he is doing good, put some mysis in and he happily gobbled up . Just put a cover on, would hate to see that happen.

Just throwing it out there for you, I have had a spotted goby for months and his favorite spot is the front corner of the glass. Seems to just like the security of it I guess. Watch him at night, that's when mine really starts to look around.
