You're correct there :) The 57 watt is rated for 355 gallons and the 80 watt up to 560 gallons. My aquarium is 165 total with sump. Both are sufficient for aquarium size.
I have the Pentair 80W on my 120, 150 total volume with my sump. I’m using mine to curb any bacterial issues so the flow rate is on the higher end, 2700-3209 GPH to get the 30k mark. I set it up on its own closed circuit drains straight into the DT. How did you plum yours with the flow rate?
i turned mine on last night for the first time after plumbing it and realized my overflow and rollermat couldn’t handle that volume.

Any updates on yall UV sterilzers Specifically the Pentair 80 watts? I'm about to get one Pentair 80 watt HO for my Red sea Reefer 750XXL. This thing is a beast. But for you that own this UV sterilizer, how often do you maintenance the unit? and how often do you change out the bulbs?
The bulb should be replaced yearly and I’d only service them with the bulb replacement or if that was a buildup on the sight piece at the end.

I was going to respond to your other post but you didnt include much details... and I'm no expert in UVs. However, on the closed circuit, you have to take dt water directly out of your DT and pump through your UV, outputting directly in to your DT. Sounds like you're taking sump water and outputting in to DT.

Edit... or... if you are using your sump water to send through your UV, your UV flow output needs to be back in to the sump.

Oh yes! I love this topic point :) I purchased both brands of UV sterilizers just to test out which one had the best response rate and positive impact. I plumbed the pentair high output 80 watt uv and 57 watt aqua uv into my reefer 625XXL. The pentair is a beast and takes up considerably more space but works better to be honest. I believe the pentair contact time with the bulb is really what makes this unit more superior in performance.

I tested each unit by taking one uv sterilizer offline for a 4 week period after both units were running together for a 2 full month period. I went offline with the pentair first and saw a noticeable impact on water clarity and algae build up. Within 2 weeks of turning the pentair sterilizer back on I was happy to see improvement. I turned my aqua uv off for 30 days and was pleasantly surprised how well the pentair did its job.

Flow rates are really managed by us and is determined on what your trying to accomplish. I am running the flow rates 150-300 gallons per hour to be effective against protozoa. One key ingredient on this subject matter is size. You definitely want to purchase a uv sterilizer that 3-4 x the suggested water volume of your aquarium for considerable impact.

Hope this helps!
I have the same rst 625 as you. Would you recommend sticking to the size you purchased?

I am no UV specialist, but I just had a thought the pentair is a longer unit than the aqua UV unit. This being said the water has a longer contact time when running through the pentair model this making it more effective I think based on specific flow rate. I have been running an aqua UV on my system for 2years it is only the 25 watt model as my system water volume is only 120G. I have been very happy with the unit. if you go with go with the aqua it do not get the one with the cleaning shaft.
