Hi,
I want to get Aqua UV Classic 25W for my 525XL (140 G including Sump)
I would like to be able to treat Ich and dinoflagellate. I know the flow rate for those 2 are different and my goal is to be able to change the flow using a DC pump.
Based on their chart, to control ich, I need to be at 90,000 µw/cm² which would be 400 G/hr flow for this UV sterilizer.
and to control Dinos maybe a bit faster at around 500 G/hr
I want to buy a pump that could become my extra return pump in case my main one dies.
I am looking at the DC G2 6000 but this one goes from 950 G/hr to 1700 G/hr
My question is once I add 1/2 inch tube to connect the pump to the UV sterilizer, what would be my true flow?
Should I get a smaller pump?
Thank you

I think it'll be close if not fine. Look at the pump curves and with a few feet of head plus that drop in pipe diameter and a couple of 90 degree bends it should work out to be within an effective use of the 25 W UV at the low exposure end (1200 gph). The higher side might be a bit under though.

I've read needing up to 180k uw/cm2 for some pathogens. You're right at the limit for a 25 watt with a 140 gallon but that 40 watt UV is not only more expensive but awkwardly bigger. Always thought if I had to upgrade I would go to 55 watt just for the more convenient size. Ok back to topic.

It should work for high flow you want (<1200 gph) and lower flows to get 90K uw/cm2 exposure.
