8.1-8.3 using C02 scrubber (BRS), no kalk. And open the windows whenever the weather is nice.

Here how I rigged my co2 scrubber to make the media last up to 3 weeks or more:

20170829_072607.jpg

I drilled a larger hole in my skimmer lids vent holes (I just bored out a vent hole to a larger diameter) to accomodate a nylon elbow fitting. Silcone tubing routs air drawn from the top of skimmer collection cup, which is moist air, into the reactor. The other side of the reactor is routed to the air intake of the skimmer. This insures that moist air is always drawn into the co2 scrubbing media. I last anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks before the media is completely exhausted and purple.

Looks familiar. I did a write up on this :)

8.0-8.2. My skimmer pulls air from outdoors and I dose 5300mL of saturated kalk a day.

8.13-8.43. Average of 8.22. I have a poorly insulated house with the tank near a window and I'm using kalk to maintain alk and ca

Interesting. I'm dosing same amount of saturated kalk per day and pulling air from outside as well...I'm at 7.7 - 7.9 Just illustrates every tank and home is different. I don't chase PH but I do keep my eye on it.

My pH runs a consistent cycle of 8.20-8.22 max during the day and 8.05 min at night. No kalk or co2 scrubbing, ground floor of a tightly sealed house, dosing 2 part around the clock, and a small fuge with a variety of macroalgae on an opposite light schedule. Before I got a doser, I would have problems with low pH and big pH swings. At that point, I tried CO2 scrubbing. Highly effective, too much so maybe, with a .2 rise in pH overnight, accompanied by abiotic precipitation and a dramatic drop in alk of 2.5 dKH. The doser evened everything out and keeps the pH always above 8. I still have the co2 scrubber but it hasn't been connected in months.

My pH is consistently awful, but i've never paid it much attention either.

Pulled this off of my ReefAngel controller from when my wife, dogs and I were visiting family for Thanskgiving. Now i'm seriously looking at options for CO2 scrubbers... Can't run outside air [live in Michigan and rent an apartment].

LOL, my family is the problem

Mine stays low between 7.5-7.8. Co2 in my house averages around 1500ppm when windows are closed and all 7 people and 2 dogs are home. I make the kids play outside when they get worked up, i tell them they're messing with my ph breathing so hard. Im about to drill a hole outside for fresh air. I have a few tangs that are very active and im more worried about lack of oxygen in my tank than ph. I have a large refugium with a huge ball of chaeto with a 160 watt light and it grows like weeds but doesn't help ph any.

CO2 concentration is completely independent of oxygen.

Apparently the worlds oceans are equilibrated at 8.10, not 8.2 like it used to be due to increased co2

I was reading ph at 7.7 in the am and 7.8 at night before lights went out. Added kalk in ato and went up slightly, maybe would see 7.95. Then I added a hose to draw outside air. Ph went up to 8.0 am and 8.2 before lights out.

For those that don’t think PH is important, you should watch BRS video on PH effects on coral growth. Spoiler alert, calcification happens faster at higher PH, target 8.3. From their perspective, PH is the secret ingredient to coral growth. I do everything (well almost everything), Kalk in ATO, outside line for protein skimmer in winter months, large chaeto refugium, refugium lights offset to display tank, I can get up to 8.15 in winter months, higher in summer with windows open.
I do believe that chasing numbers, is real with PH.

With a reverse cycle refugium and hourly doses of sodium carbonate for alkalinity, I've been able to hit 8.3 at the peak of the photoperiod. Prior to these, I could only top it out at about 8.12 max.

Two part with alk goin every 15 minutes at night.

Lots of circulation and bright lights during day.

I have a c02 scrubber, but hardly use it.

I run a kessil H350 and an H80 over chaeto on reverse cycle and ozone to skimmer.
