Hi guys, we have a 48" Photon series fixture on the way. We will put it up for order in 4 weeks, when we receive our first samples and they are ready to ship. It will be around $499, and it will have as many LEDs as 2 Photon24s, but only one controller. It will cover a 48" long sps tank with no shadows, and a 60" mixed reef as well. Here is a shot of the layout:

Will yall please develop an LED + T5 combo fixture... It is the only thing I am considering buying over a 36" photon!

thank you for posting this, was fixing to order (2) 24's or (2) 16's next week but I imagine I will wait on this, will it be a better all around option than either of the other 2 beside the obvious of having only one controller?

We believe that LEDs have sufficient spectrum to no longer need T-5s, the main benefit of T-5s is the actinict bulbs 420nm peak, which our fixtures do have. If you want more 420nm, you can always run a strip of DIY violet LEDs on the back of the fixture, or a retro T-5 bulb.

If hung at the required height what would par be on the sandbed of a 21 inch tank?

I have the photon 24, and a 22" tank, with about an inch, maybe 1.5" sandbed, and I get 200 PAR during my peak hours. That is NOT directly under the fixture though, it is offset to the outside by a few inches, as my rock is directly under the fixture. My fixture is about 9" off the water surface.

PAR is definitely not an issue with this line of fixtures.

That's the beauty of the controller, I have areas that are only 50 par... The focused light is really a game changer.

any optics? also, over a standard 90gal would (2) 24's provide more par than the 48? I'm wanting to order in a week or so but if the 48 is worth the wait then I will wait instead getting the 24's

Standard 90 optics, nothing special.

I had a PAR meter from the club for a while, and I have been gradually increasing the output of the light. I am currently at a max of 85% blue, and 60% white for about an hour a day. This period of intense light has seemed to help with color and growth, eventually I will work up to 100/100 for an hour or so I think.

You would have dark corners with jus one 48". IMO I would suggest you get two 36". If your tank is 72" by 18" by 22".

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
