Im in the planning stage of my dream 75 gallon mixed reef tank i know that the rocks have to be secured to the tank bed so that the shirmps dont excavate the rockwork my question is are candy cane pistol shrimp or red baneded whatever name you wanna use would their aggresive territorial nature be a issue with such a large tank and open space.

I dont know everthing i want to stock the tank with but for now
clownfish
fire anglefish
Goby paired with the pistol shrimp
Cleaner shimp
Snails,conches
Pom pom crabs

And the rest of the fish i dont know mabye some wrasses

Candy canes are very peaceful and safe (unless something goes into its den in which case they get snapped at)

I did not have other shrimp when I kept my candy cane so I can't answer that. Its one of the smaller species of pistol. My experience is that it did not venture outside of its den, only defended its den if anything got close.

That list would work well but the most likely to be agressive is the flame angel. Also not all gobies can pair with shrimp so you will need to figure out which ones work best for you.

Yes im taking my chances with the flame angle fish as i know their semi reef safe and are known to be aggresive but i figure 75 gallons is enough to keep them away from each other for the most part

I was thinking a firefish goby or watchman goby

To my knowledge a firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) does not pair with shrimp. The yellow watchman goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus) will pair with e.g. a Tiger pistol shrimp (alpheus bellulus) and may pair with a candy cane. I had a watchmn/tiger pair in my 65g together with two skunk cleaner shrimps, and there was no aggression. However, there are many shrimp species, and they often look very similar, so verify what you were sold before putting it in the tank . Because once it is in the tank, it is usually very hard to get them out!

I have a skunk cleaner shrimp and a tiger pistol shrimp/yellow watchman goby pair in my 75 gal right now.

I have never seen shrimp on shrimp aggression in the 3 months I’ve had them together. The pistol shrimp is honestly kind of a wuss, I rarely ever see him. If I do he’s always right behind the watchman goby or has one antennae/feeler touching the goby. If the goby so much as flinches he’s in the burrow faster than you can blink.

You can tell he’s in the tank though. Every morning I wake up to find a new pile of sand moved in the tank so he’s busy. Both he and the goby have like 9 entrances they come and go in.

The skunk cleaner is almost always on top of the rock work and never bothers with the burrows.
