pistol shrimp

Ok, so I dropped food into my tank today, and not long after while everything was mobile, A few nassarius snails grouped in a corner. My P.shrimps hole is about 3 inches from here.... He then pops out and drags the snails one by one down into his hole..... is this normal???? Do you think he is killing them?

Yes it is normal, i had a pistol with my yellow watchman goby and i lost all of my snails and some hermits....a bad mistake on my part but one of the most interesting creatures iv'e kept ever....:)

My hermits lived in constant fear. I just removed my pistol, the larger he became the more aggressive he got. For my hermits it was like "Nightmare on Elm St" every day. I do not think I lost any hermits to the pistol, but every day he would pop outa no where and drag some poor hermit under the rock.

Mine will eat small snails at times but it's not too often since my Yashia goby actually brings it out to eat when I feed.

my pistol was a frag thief lol took a long time for me to catch on but frags kept disappearing final straw was a superman monti back when they were still fairly high end I started looking for it stuck my hand in a cave found it dead of course. put my hand in found more frags all dead then snap. snap it was at that moment I decided that pistol had to find a new home he thought all my corals needed no light and no flow. i have talked to others with similar problems

hahah thats no good at all! i have problems with my hermits knocking all my frags over so now anything thats not very big has to be put on my frag rack!

Yup, hermits will eat shrimps/crabs/etc, they'll rearrange anything you leave loose on the sandbed, they'll dig holes all over the tank ... they're SO worth it though. :)

hrmm.... i find this most disturbing, pistol shrimp may be finding a new home
