After reading about Revs plate dying and sprouting babies, I once again looking at plates. Was at the LFS and the prices were a bit too high and I want to do more research before jumping into something without the knowledge.

I asked about plates in BB and how they would respond.

Any advice or knowledge about how plates do in BB tanks?

Thanks in advance!

Never ran BB, but I think it'd be fine. If you have high flow near the bottom of the tank the plate might slide around because there's nothing to hold it in place. Otherwise, I don't see any issues.

I may have to give it a try, I like having a BB tank right now, so clean and neat and easy to get the crud outta the tank that collects in the 2 dead spots I have. I will keep that in mind about the plate sliding around!

i have seen a few tanks bare bottom with plates and all sorts of stuff lol.... everything looked great and no problems i have ever heard.... the only thing i know that have a hard time in a bare bottom system is a few wrasses but you can cure that with a bowl of sand lol...

if you have live rock in the BB put the plate on it. i had one that thrived once i put it on a piece of LR. that's where they live. in between cracks and in holes on reefs. i've never seen a plate living on sand while diving.

I have a orange plate in my BB tank and it is happy as could be.just use care when placing it down so you don't damage the tissue.

I donthave any experience with BB tanks, but I imagine that they would do just fine. That seems to be the concensus I have seen above. Good luck!

I have three plates and four scollys on my barebottom tank. They all do fine, if you dont mind me asking how much was it, there are a few venders on here that can get you a plate pretty cheap or where you looking at some of those high end ones.
