this, and they look like palys to meAll Palys and Zoas have palytoxin.
Where are you getting this information from? All Palys and Zoas have palytoxin.
You answered your own question. If you can't distinguish which ones do or don't or have high or low levels more specifically, whats the safe assumption?Where are you getting this information from?
I see lots of people say authoritatively that only palys have palytoxin. I see others equally authoritatively say that both can have it, and I see others like you who say authoritatively that they ALL do.
So where exactly are you getting this information from?
I think caution is advised for all palys and zoas because we do not know which do or do not have the toxin, excepting that some like Paly Grandis definitely do.
That is a huge difference from you stating, as if it were a fact, that all zoas and palys have palytoxin. You answered your own question. If you can't distinguish which ones do or don't or have high or low levels more specifically, whats the safe assumption?
why spread information that could kill someone? Just treat them as if they all can. What do you have to prove that they all don't? And no, to a new reefer there is really no difference. If you can't look at it and be sure, they all do far as I'm concerned... and I wasn't the one that said it.That is a huge difference from you stating, as if it were a fact, that all zoas and palys have palytoxin

Well based on that, the general consensus of all being toxic is the safe information to give.Yes, I agree with that. What I disagree with is telling someone that all zoas and all palys contain palytoxin if you do not know that for a fact. Too many people spreading misinformation. We do not need it.
I do not know if they do or do not, but it seems like everyone who logs on here seems to know and yet can't point to anything that backs up their claim.

I wasn't even the one that said it. All I did was quote him and agree because if OP doesn't know what this picture is of, and is concerned with potential dangers, that is essentially what they need to know.Except many people say it isn't true, and you have no evidence to support your claim.
You're right. We don't know which Palys or Zoas have Palytoxin so they should all be treated as if they do. However, since some species of Dinoflagellates also can have Palytoxin, pretty much any saltwater aquarium should be treated as if it contains Palytoxin.Where are you getting this information from?

+++^^^^+++++All Palys and Zoas have palytoxin.
It's scary but using proper precautions is easy enough. If it's not worth it to you for the added risk, definitely pass them along. Thanks you and everyone else for help looks like il be passing them on to someone who wants to deal with it in dint feel like i want to take the risk
So all my zoas are highly toxic I’m guessing? I had them years ago as well and without knowing I used to handle them with my bare hands. So just by them being in my aquarium they can poison the air in the room? As I keep my in my bedroomtop is Palythoa toxica, bottom is Zoanthus sansibaricus and cf vietnamensis
