Can I go directly to the pump with PVC or should I use about 6 inches of vinyl tubing from the pump to PVC to cut down on vibration?

They are suppose to be very quiet. I know the VarioS-6 skimmer pump I have is quiet and it is hard plumbed.
But just to take all the precautions possible, going with soft tubing helps eliminate one possible issue.

If you go hard pvc, just make sure to use a union thats easy to access for when you want to take your pump out of the sump and some silicone mat, that doesn't give me any vibration noises.

Ditto to goodair. If you hard-plumb it, make sure you can break the connection (without getting wet) so that you can move the pump around.

That's why I went with flexible hose for the return tubing.
