Going to plumb my new 120 gallon tank. This is my first time plumbing a sump. Been researching and planning for 2 weeks now. This what I have decided to do. Any suggestions on whats better? Its a SC Aquarium tank btw.

Looks good! I wouldn't do the ball valve on the emergency line though, just let it free flow. That way when the main drain clogs the emergency line is fully accessible to handle it instead of causing an overflow issue because you forgot to open the ball valve after doing maintenance.....ask me how I know :grinning-face-with-sweat:

I agree to skip the valve on the emergency drain line.
Also with the wye check valve, I think they should be in the vertical position to work properly. Also for them to continue working they need constant cleaning. I clean mine every two weeks. I tiny bit of algae or anything sticks to the piston and it will fail. One reason to not rely on them.

Yeah saw people put ball valve and not even use it once then the valve gets stuck.

Yeah not putting ball valve on the emergency drain anymore. cleaning it would not be a problem as i can just do them during my water changes. I think it can be used in any orientation from what ive researched.

Check valves are worthless BECAUSE stuff grows on every surface of our systems. That includes valve sealing surfaces. All it takes is one bit of gunk to render a check valve useless. Instead design the system to handle the drainage volume. That way, physics dictates it can’t fail.

Have to what is called exercise all valves ie turn them on and off every so often. To each his or her own. I do like an anti siphon set up you don't show that part and is very straight forward will prevent your tank draining in power outage and keeps maintenance easy

Finished it today. Just trying to figure out how to connect the reefmat hose to the fitting. Water test next week, going on a trip this weekend.

Looks like a really neat a tidy plumbing job for you first time! One thing I always do now is use male thread x female thread pieces with threaded bulkheads in case I ever need to completely take the tank off the stand for whatever reason. The unions won't fit through the hole in the tank where the bulkheads go through.

If I don't want to spend the extra money on those parts and just want to use slip x slip bulkheads I make sure to leave 1-2" pvc exposed out of the Bulkhead before I add my union so I can cut the pcv if I ever need to. Maybe you move and need to disconnect the tank, etc.

So......JUST answered another thread. And I'm gonna copy and paste what I wrote, as it has some relevance here as well......

Just make sure you can disconnect your plumbing at multiple points so you can easily add, subtract and modify your set up with future projects. When I plumb my sump, I'll have the ability to remove the plumbing in a New York second if I need to get my sump outta there. In addition, I'll have release points lower down in case I decide to add a piece of equipment or two. I know......more leak potential......I'll just have to make sure I tighten things down!

Absolutely beautiful. Stay on top of it and exercise those valves or they will freeze. Want to see it again a year from now
