I just had to return my pair of clownfish that I bought a week and a half ago because they were very aggressive and bullied my royal gramma. This made me think: how many other people have had to return their fish and for what reason? So that’s why I’m posting this. Please share your experiences!

Yep. A few.
Snowflake eel that took out 1/2 its tank mates.
A hawkfish that killed a smaller starry blenny and Just recently a lyretail anthias that was alone and picking on my other fish.

I have a C. Rubeus I’m going to have to take back as a result of him bullying a C. Solorensis I got after him to death.

C. Solorensis was significantly better looking AND personality so it’s just a matter of time before I take this C. Rubeus back.

PS. Will use a socialization box from here on out per @evolved the Wrasse King

Not return but I once removed a coral beauty from a 100g reef to an established 30g quarantine for nipping too many corals (all the ones I liked at the time. Ignored the ones I didnt care about) until I found a hobbiest who wanted it.
When I first got into reefing (around 06') I got a Sally Lightfoot crab. Nobody told me they were lightning fast with the potential to go psycho. I did return him before he did anything. I just didn't trust it with tankmates

I had one of these fairy wrasses a few years back that bullied everyone in the tank including my yellow tang. It was a shame I had to part with him bc he was sooo darn pretty

New to saltwater and got impression every saltwater must be full of diesese and parasites so need to do extensive qt system on everything going into tank and have 1 qt for fish and 1 for corals/ inverts and medicate all fish regardless diesese/parasites then thought surely all cant be like this but bought very first 2 clownfish that daughter wanted and even though spent long time inspecting these less than 1 inch fish, about 20 of them and watched them all eat ,as i got them home one had 2 big lumps on side of head as looking down into jug im drip aclimintising them in.
Thought omg first bloody fish lol its true lol
Lfs shut day after so had to wait till day after that so sent email with pictures and they saying bring back and get refund/swap/or credit note etc. So under zoom on phone seen more closer these parasites and 2 days i had them the ill fish getting terrorised in my qt by other clown and fins in tatters and slime coat day after starting to lose, started thread in r2r and got told brookennella, lfs reply day after again saying take water sample in as looks like amnonia or salinity change burns lol.
Even though clearly see big lump on each side of head and night before took back the parasite started to move and could see indent and see it half hanging off.
Know i should of let qt go fallow and get credit note or refund and shopped elsewhere but then thought nearly every lfs tanks going have some fish come in from wholesalers or a customer donating fish from quitting hobby or exchanging fish like i did and could been in my main st with all other diesesed fish for all the lfs knew and usually in lfs i been to ,all one wall with lots tanks on one system and other wall on another system so all fish swimming in same water kind of thing so just decided to exchange 2 clowns for ANOTHER 2 CLOWNS from same exact tank and didnt go fallow or medicate new fish so i will see in next coming months if made massive mistake but then as did this thought ok i won't buy qt tank for inverts/corals and just drip aclimunate cuc and puf straight into dt and 2 zoa/paly frags just dipped and into dt also as reading lots about such high qt produres/medicated all fish/ corals/cuc in qt fishless for 3 months and parasite still got in dt so thought medicated fish and fishless qt for cuc/ corals will drastically lesson risk but doesnt 100% guarantee no paraaites in dt with some strains getting immune to medication or somehpw just getting through so now zoom in on all fish at lfs with phone and look like a right nesbit and went to another recommended lfs 1 hour away and bought few fish from there system and in connected tanks seen couple wrasse flashing on sand every minute and clown on side struggling and purple tang full white spots and my blennie and wrasse occasionally flashing on rocks but no visible parasaites so guess im doing the parasite management and not the thorough qt i thought i would do. Going look into white worm culture and try my best to feed best live food i can or frozen and keep away from pellets but we shall see what happens hey ^_^

Hi again!
Yes yes many times, for many reasons, but mostly because the fish got aggressive. I also brought fish to the same store I bought and traded for credit.

That’s a stunner for sure

Hey! Fish store will give me 50% store credit once the fish sell which is $40. Have they said anything about the website pic yet?
No returns.
Ya get what ya get.
I feel bad for returning it to them from a business perspective but I couldn’t watch one of my fish die and there’s no getting around a clownfish pair that bites everything that enters the feeding hatch (my hand, syringes, turkey basters, etc). But if I couldn’t return, I would learn to work with it

Bought a lyretail antheas that looked fine in the store only to find that it had red sores from Uronema that I missed
Sometimes, you only notice it when you spend hours with it. It was like the clownfish. They both looked peaceful and no aggressions but whaddaya know
