power out and UPS.....

ok so last night at 2am I lost power for afew hours....
I had to drop in a battery air pump and air stone to keep O2 as best as can..
I have an UPS on one of my pumps to move water but.......
the battery is dead as I don't think it lasted 5min.......

sooooooooooo question is...
If I were to pick up a new battery I was thinkin bout a marine battery...
like a car or motorcycle bat but more deep cycle...
wouldn't the UPS still charge it???
and it would last longer too.....
I have a tender on my motorcycle and it charges at 1 amp so I was thinkin the UPS would do the same as it would go for awhile before it uses it....

Yes youll need 2 probably. 24 volts.

right now it has one 12v sealed battery inside

It needs to be matched with the electronics inside of the UPS.

A boat or vehicle battery with an inverter might be a good solution for longer power outages. Otherwise, the UPS products are good to get you through brownouts or short outages, depending on your equipment and the UPS you buy.

True, but I don't know how sophisticated the UPS is. Is it one of the standard models or the ones with digital controls? Also, have you opened the case? Is there enough physical room for a larger battery?

so I think it more or less just flips a relay with the power
for room I was thinking of extending the wires to a boat box with the battery

Oh yeah, you could totally do that. I was thinking you were wanting to fit the battery into the same chassis.

Just make sure you buy a sealed lead acid battery. Unsealed batteries can give off hydrogen when charged.

Yes, a sealed marine deep cycle battery would work. Your UPS charging board would take a while to fully charge that battery, but it doesn't seem like that's much of an issue unless you experience frequent power interruptions.

no not really.... maybe afew hours like every 2 months....
did lose power before my tanks for bout 12 hours... had a fire going and everyone slept in liveingroom ;)

That should work, then. You already know you need to match the battery voltage to whatever was installed in the UPS.
